good place to buy number plates?

As has been pointed out already, most of these plates are technically illegal! Number plates have to show the British Standard number and also the number plate suppliers name and postcode, this is usually the garage that sold the car but could also be the name of the company who actually made the plates.

Admittedly you are unlikely to get in trouble unless you have an odd font or tinted plates or something else dodgy.

I think it depends on the surround, I have oem surrounds front and rear and they look good.

I defy anyone to find those plate holders tacky.

Ur surround does not look too bad and I have seen worse on MBs - chrome surrounds are the worse... :)

However, I prefer the clean number plate look with chrome plated screws on rear and black painted screws on the front... ;)

I have OEM surrounds aswell, none of those nasty screws on my motor :)

It is probably a legal requirement to have same-coloured covers on all the screws to avoid obscuring the letters.

Please note: European plates don't have holes in them which is why ALL Europeans have plate holders.

ON OEM MB Plates with pre-drilled holes the screws are located/postioned on the BORDER/frame and are no where near the LETTERING/NUMBERS/FONT or interfere with it in anyway... :)

If the screws did interfere with the lettering/numbers on the plates and it was illegal than I am sure that DamilerChrysler/Stealers would be in trouble and every brand new MB would have the tacky surround... ;)

Hi Where can i buy the rear registration plate holders mentioned in this thread. Just bought my SLK and putting my semi-personalised plate on it, but hate the 4 drilled hole look of MB plates. Other than going to MB for OEM, is there a good place to buy them ?

Hi Ray,

I bought a new pair of plates for one of my cars yesterday, and was intending to use them in the plate holders that I've already got. Should be fitting them today, and I'm not 100% sure on using the holders or not.

If I don't use them, you're welcome to them for the price of postage :)

Hi Ray,

I've fitted them this afternoon - didn't use the plate holders, so if you're interested I'll happliy send them to you :)

You might have to ask the moderators for permission to send/recieve PM messages? I think you need 30 posts otherwise for access ;)

Will

Ray

Hi Ray,

You could try asking one of the moderators/admin on here if they'll allow you access to the 'PM' (private messages)? Otherwise post your email address on here temporarily, and then once I've got the details you can edit the post :)

Will

Ray , i'll PM that to Will for you ....

Don't leave your email adress up as the bots will pick it up and you'll have loads of spam.

Delete it now mate , i've copied it .
