Car
1994 Mercedes C180 classic
Whooo waaa..... paid 116 quid for them from ebay germany, via wire transfer too, great communication and service. Now all I have to do is fit them. :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

My car is white, the covers are black, is it worth painting them to my car colour or buying white ones instead?

Great news NW_Merc you finally got them. If you can get the covers painted for a price cheaper than the new ready painted cost price then surely get them painted, but get them painted properly should you take that route.

Nice! How much, and are they pre-wired for your pre-facelift W202?

I got them all in for 116 quid, but they're not wired so will have to change the plug or make a 'feeder' loom to go from the car to the mirror.

Oh, Karl there's a silver pair on there at the mo' (german ebay that is) being sold as 2 separate mirrors though

Black's good - paint the car to match?

If only, but, seriously though, would it be worth painting the mirror covers. I was talking to my brother and he was saying that maybe it would be difficult to cover the black colour and so white covers which are painted from the factory might be the way forward.

Thanks for your opinions so far :bannana:

Depends on the cost of pre painted covers, maybe someone knows how much they cost at the dealers for a pair of inner and outer shells pre painted.

Pity you cant do searches on old eBay unsold items, I remember a white cover from about 4months ago that would have been perfect :(

Aah well you win some you lose some.... if necessary I'll get them new from the stealer or Inchape. Just have to change the plug on them to fit, I can run around with black mirrors on for the time being once I get them on the car :bannana: :bannana:

Karl here are the one's on ebay currently if you're interested:

White will paint over black no problem, white is an opaque colour.

I know they're about 90 quid per side from the stealers

They cost £70 form MB on average.

You can paint them indoor with aerosols but that is a cellulose product, and re the white base coat that you have, I would flat that with a 1200 paper and use a grey undercoat, otherwise the paint will come off very easily.

White can influence the colour, we always sprayed red cars white first in order to get a bright red. incidentally there are more shades of black than any other colour.

You need to spray them at min temp of 18c, and its better if you warm them up first. Do not try and cover in one pass, you cant as the paint is too thin and they will need at least 3-4 coats. leave the first 2 I hour between coats and the 3rd coat leave it 10 mins to flash off then give the final, this will melt the previous coat and act like a holding glue.

Do all of the corners first and leave to dry

The final product will need 20 hour before handling

Are you sure, I thought aerosol paints were acrylic.

I agree with Tv, give the exisiting finish a good rub down as a key.

It depends on where you buy it, acrylic is very weak in its own rights and not very durable for people knocking them.

Some cans like Halfords sell smell in between the two, it never tells
you what it is on most cans, For this time of the year I would ask someone to do it when they have a black car in, the cost would be very low.

I only use aerosol in emergency as the finish is nothing like what can be obtained with my compressor

Even if he want's them white.?

The thing is that the mirrors have come with the covers on them rather, how do I take the covers off the W210 mirrors so I can access the screws to attach it to where the W202 mirrors are sitting currently?
