Hosepipe Ban - Tips on how to wash your car....

I like the idea of the detailing spray but I have trouble getting my head around rubbing dirt and grit into the paintwork. does the spray somehow lubricate the surface and stop this happening?

Karcher seems to be on the case

You are right Diesel Man, I guess the problem is every time it rains on my car it looks dirty!

Anyway I am now tempted to get a pressure washer. Just phoned up Karcher and you can get a "suction kit" which filters the water and can be put in a water butt or bucket - Cost £39.99.

Also according to their site you save water!

Karcher have this on their site.

Save Water

With a hot summer just around the corner it is likely that many areas of the UK will be subject to a hosepipe ban. High pressure cleaners are up to 90% more efficient than a garden hose, read our Q&A below to find out how to reduce your water consumption:

Q: How much water does a high pressure cleaner use?

A: A high pressure cleaner will use between 400 to 600 litres of water per hour. A saving of up to 90% when compared to a garden hose which uses up to 3500 litres per hour.

Q: How else does a high pressure cleaner save water?

A: Kärcher high pressure cleaners are all fitted with an auto-stop facility, when the trigger gun is released the machines pump automatically cuts out and stops the water flow. Saving both water, electricity and prolonging the life of your machine.

Q: Can I still use my high pressure cleaner during a hose pipe ban?

A: By connecting your high pressure cleaner to a hose pipe you will be contravening the water authorities advice. However, certain Kärcher pressure washers can be used without being connected to a hose pipe. With a suction kit accessory it is possible to draw water from a water butt, bucket or static water source. The suction kit is also fitted with a filter to remove any unwanted particles.
Q: Does my high pressure cleaner save water by cleaning more quickly?

A: Yes, because water is applied at high pressure, cleaning tasks are carried out quicker than other conventional methods. Saving you both time and water.

Anyone know that the ban has been lifted ????

Anyone see any press/news about this though ? - They made a big thing about it coming in...

Edit - Just found this on the Daily Express:-

"THE first drought warning of the year has been issued – weeks after most hosepipe bans were lifted.

Independent long-range forecasters said millions living in drought-stricken parts of the country could expect the return of water restrictions from June."

Edit - more news...

Many of the fields I drive past on a daily basis are still badly flooded. Almost all the ditches are full to bursting so, yes, there is bound to be a hosepipe ban again very soon

Don't you just love the water companies

On a serious note ....

I can't find the internal mailing at the mo ( and if i did i couldn't tell you about it as its confidential ;) ) , but we have had over 150% of the projected rainfall over the last 8 months and apparently a hosepipe ban looks extremely unlikely this year ...

Nearly all the aquifers and reservoirs are fully recharged (with the exception of a couple in Gloucs. ) and very little pumping is taking place , most of the landwater is being allowed to run off , as anyone living near the Thames will testify ....

No doubt someone will save this post, so that when we do have a ban this year, you can wave it in my face and tell me 'I told you so ...' :D

Nice one Howard. I made that little dig about the water companies with my tongue firmly in my cheek expecting you to reply ;) .

I was expecting a load of grief but on a serious note it's good news that we are well stocked up for the summer.

I just hope people are sensible about using sprinklers etc (unlike my neighbour who has been using his already :( )
