How many V8 engined cars have you owned and what's your favourite

Eleven far. Plymouth Satellite estate (1974 model, I think); Rover SD1; S210 E55; 2 x S211 E55Ks; R129 SL500; S211 E500; Jaguar XK; R230 SL500; SLK55; S212 E63; W163 ML500. My next one - quite soon - will be either a W164 ML500 (M113 engine) or ML420 diesel, or just possibly another S211 E500.

The rot really set in in 2013, when I bought the S210, my first Mercedes...

Favourite? Hard to say, really, but I think the N/A M113 is definitely my favourite engine.

TVR Cerbera 4.2
TVR Cerbera 4.5
Mercedes CLS55 AMG 5.5
Porsche Cayenne Turbo 4.5
Mercedes CLS55 AMG 5.5
Mercedes CLS63 AMG 5.5

Only 6 V8’s but 29 litres and 3360bhp!!

Favourite is by a very small margin the AJP 4.5 (TVR), of which I put a lot of time and effort into getting it to produce the TVR claimed 420bhp (most made between 330-360bhp). Spine tingling noise at full chat.

Next is the current M157, running over 900bhp for well over 20k miles with zero issues. Amazing.

Only three for me…

2000 CL500
2004 CLK55 Cabrio
2012 E500 Cabrio

Owned the first two between 2002 - 2004 followed by a 13 year gap before the E500.

I've had two C207 cabrios, one with the mighty fine 3 litre V6 diesel engine and one with the V8 bi-Turbo.

There is 'something' about a V8. It just brings the car alive..

Range Rover Classic 3.9 Vogue
TVR Griffith 500
Range Rover 4.4 Vogue x2
Mercedes E55 AMG
Mercedes SL 55 AMG

My favourites would have to be the E or SL the 55K engine is an impressive beast.

Only two V8s - C43 (W202) and SLK55. I think of the two, the C43 is the one I miss the most, although I kept the SLK for longer - 8 years, the longest I've kept any of my cars.

I have tried a lot of engine configurations over the years though:

In-line twin
In-line triple
In-line four
Flat four
In-line 5
V5
In-line 6
V6
V8

Single and twin cylinder bikes.

I'm thinking that I still need to squeeze in a flat 6, a V12 and maybe a rotary in at some point. The search continues..

Cheers,

Gaz

If you ride bikes arnt you forgetting your add the amazing sounding V4 to the list of must tries :D.

I've owned a few and still have the last two.
Rover 75 V8 LHD (Geneva show car)
MG ZT V8 RHD
MG ZT-T V8 LHD
MG SV-R 5.0 LHD (last factory produced SV)
Audi RS5 RHD
Brabus CL B63S LHD
BMW M6 Competition RHD

The one I regret selling is the MG SV-R. The best V8 I've owned is the Brabus (seen here at its favourite 98 pump).

Never had one (went from IL6 to a V10 :D) but will most definitely have one in the future as all the newer incarnations are V8, both with Mercedes and Audi. You soon get used to the fuel consumption but the smiles per miles is incredible! Big petrol engines are a must if you have never had one!

...My next one - quite soon - will be either a W164 ML500 (M113 engine)...

They never made one. W164 500 are M273.

I would like to own the E500 one day. In estate form. That might be my next 2nd car. :thumb:

Watch this space! I might be selling mine early next year.

Several;
Rover sd1 v8 manual, very rare fuel injection export model (not vitesse).
Bmw 530i auto saloon.
Bmw 540i tourer.
Mercedes e430 estate.
Porsche 928 s4 manual. Wish I still had it now, great car.
Mercedes w220 s500.
Mercedes e500 estate.
Mercedes sl500.
Love a V8!

Just the one for me, an e39 BMW 540i, sepia violet paint, with aubergine and champagne leather. Should have kept it looking at what they go for now!

I test drove a E39 6 speed manual 540i saloon years ago from Hexegan in Highgate. I was so close to buying that car. A lovely example is the 540i E39. I went with the 530iA instead. That was a fantastic car also.

I’ve driven plenty, but owed just two. Lexus LS 400 94 thru 2000.
Never heard a thing from either then or since:dk:
Range Rover TDV8 in 2015, lovely car but a disaster in terms of reliability.

Current stock:
4cyl diesel. 110 bhp
4cyl petrol. 160 bhp
V4 petrol. 170 bhp
V6 diesel. 300+ bhp
....and also use of a V6 petrol. 680 bhp

I’m sure you work out which vehicles they belong to:)

Bikes are a thing of the past.. Mrs. Gaz has a downer on two-wheeled transport. I still have one lurking at the back of the garage, but it was there before she came along so she can't make me get rid. The rules are now that I can have as many horsepower as I like - as long as it's attached to four wheels. I can live with that..

Cheers,

Gaz

Fair enough, I have to admit I'm considering giving up road riding and going track only in the next couple of years, too busy and too many idiots on the roads!.
Do love the Panigale V4 though it's an amazing machine :D.

I also can't believe I forgot a V8 from my list!, I had an early Cayenne Turbo up until early this year.

They never made one. W164 500 are M273.

Oh Bugger! What's the reliability of the M273 like compared to the M113? Any balancer shaft problems, for a start?

Out of my earlier list, the two cobra replicas were the most noticeable, the first had a 310bhp rover lump in, the second had a 490bhp Chevy small block. Both very loud and fast, I've calmed right down now with only 430bhp.....
