Ken Livingstone’s secret plan to extend congestion charging

Deluded or comical Times Online commenter said:
I'd extend it to cover the entire area within the M25 and raise it to £25 a day.

I'ts the only way to be fair to the children growing up there.

Tim Prawn, Slough, UK

 Silly, silly, silly. Ken needs to be ousted.

just extend it to the whole of the M25 and ask why it is okay to pollute on weekends and on bank holidays. As if all the Co2 generated on these days will vaporise come monday morning.
I can see a rise in tag theft from vehicles.

I cant understand why todays newspapers havent given this item of news greater coverage. Strange...........

He denied it on TV news last night. But then just before his last election he said he "could concieve of no circumstance when he would need to raise the Con Charge" (from £5). After election, of course, he promptly raised it to £8. Politicians, eh ... ?

I will eat the star on my bonnet if he does NOT extend it to include the newly introduced Low Emission Zone (most trunk roads within M25). As Autocar magazine pointed out a few weeks ago, the LEZ will never make money and will make very little difference to truck emissions in Greater London (especially as the biggest culprits - TfL buses are exempt). However, a simple software switch could see it apply a charge to every vehicle, which is probably at the root of his idea to make the Con Charge easier to pay by a tag and beacon system.

Don't trust Livingstone. He WILL go back on whatever he says before the election, just like he has in the past.

He can't extend it to the M25 because his remit doesn't extend to the M25. I live within the motroway but outside the GLA :bannana: :bannana:

The man clearly has psychological issues and should not be put in charge of a box of crayons, never mind a large metropolitan authority.

In the words of the great philosopher:-

May his ears turn into ar5eholes
And sh!t on his shoulders

I made a fundamental decision today - if someone else does not get elected Mayor of London i.e. Livingstone gets re...sorry I can't bring myself to say it. Then I am going to plan and implement an exit strategy - not sure how or where - but another 4 years of this is going to be unbearable. It really is taking the proverbial!

Its not just the stealth taxes, its the overall quality of life in London. I mean you only get one life don't you and you can't let people like this **** it up!

Apologies for the rant :( I really do love London, especially at night :)

I am thinking along those lines also.....................

He is trying to have his domain increased from the gla to the whole of London!!!

The whole purpose of the congestion charge has been bought up on the PM web site

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/equal-charge/

Plus others on the subject

The petition asks why its based on Co2, in the first place as it is a charge on the number of vehicles not how much they pollute. He is slowly changing the traffic lights to impede drivers, increase co2 emissions and charge more.

They have recently changed the traffic light sequence on the A41 coming out of london, on the stretch just before Brent cross, this used to have a couple of minutes delay but is now 10-15.

How can he get away with this?????

Ken is only out to penalise the driver, car, motor bike van or truck. Box junction fines of £60, bus lane fines £60(unless you pay after 14 days then £120) anywhere else in the county £30 for bus lane and nothing unless you get caught by a copper for box junctions(A40 heading out of oxford towards Eynsham everybody blocks this one)

Maybe he had a bad experience as a kid!!!!!!

Just thought, why don't all the goverment agencies that use range rovers/Jaguars/Bentleys and of course Mercs, swap to low CO2 versions of these cars to make a statement that they are committed to lower CO2 emissions. I guess because they can't get all their kit in to something smaller they won't which is why people have this type of car in the first place.

He was probably the snotty little $**t that got his head flushed down the loo and then had his pocket money taken ('Protection Charge') by the kid whose dad drove a Jag.

What do you mean "was"............................?

Perhaps this might be an opportune moment to repost one of Kens famous quotes..................

"I hate cars. If I ever get any powers again I’d ban the lot."

So now you know his full unabridged agenda.

Sorry! 'is still'

Does anyone else also get the impression that London is turning into a model for a neo-socialist capital?

Next we are going to have our own 'Wall' around the M25, Community 'Support' Officers with German Shepherds and a Party Elite where some Animals will be more important than others.

Did Maggie refuse his parking permit in the 80's
