Dieselman said:Check what brand of exaust they are going to fit before you let them do it. Examples of good brands are Walker and Bosal.
big x said:Bosal have a poor reputation on the BMW forums. The one I had on an E34 touring was noisey and rusted quickly. To be blunt ,Italian made junk.

Dieselman said:Are you sure you mean Bosal? They are generally well respected and are actually a Dutch company who don't have a plant in Italy.

big x said:Are you sure you don't mean Friedrich Boysen GmbH & Co.!
big x said:The BMW forums are US based so I can only go on what I read there. The centre and rear box on my old E32 touring said made in Italy(I believe they supply Alfa) on them and dated 2004 and on their site they say they have 32 plants, they can't all be in Holland !
This sounds like a poor fitting issue rather than the pipe.big x said:The welds where rusting and as I said the performance in terms of refinement was poor as was the fit.I had to use exhaust putty on the joints after the car failed the MOT for blowing and the Lambda was too high due to a leak !
big x said:On my C-class the original 1997 exhuast and on my 1992 BMW 740i there is no corrosion anywhere. The MB exhuast comes apart like a swiss watch.
The former E32 keeper used a fast fit outlet and paid a fair whack for the bosel, for only a few pounds more he could of got OE.
On later BMW E39 5-series the exhausts have harmonic balancers and complex designs so I would imagine anything from a fast fit place is going to wreck the refinement.
