Looks like I get to choose a company car, Merc or BMW?

If you can't go above 2 litre then you have no choice. The smallest C class diesel is currently 2.2 litres You would have to get a A Class to get a sub 2litre diesel.

No wonder MB are losing out on BMW sales. They need to sort their emissions out!

Might be the company car policy, but it has nothing to do with tax of course, purely emissions

If you want the common car go for BMW. If you want exclusivity buy a Ford Mondeo. :D.

Friend just bought a 320d Touring. Lovely car - am tempted. :wallbash:

Merely quoting the OP. :dk: Its possible once the the initial furore of the A and B class [ another possible company car if you can live with the people carrier looks and lengthy waiting lists?] These smaller capacity [ Cam belt-Renault derived in some cases irrc] diesels will eventually find their way into the C Class--- maybe in the new model-- Their power outputs are comparable to the present higher capacity OM651 engines.

At this stage in the model cycles, I'd expect the 3-series to be a better package than the C-Class because the design is approx 6 years younger. In another 18 months, once the W205 is the current model, the positions may be reversed (as they were to some extent when the W204 was the new kid on the block).

The W204 is still a very good car, but if you're looking for the most wallet-friendly company car package then the 3-series is hard to beat at the moment. That you and your work colleagues will always have to check the registration number before getting into the car to make sure it's yours is a separate problem ;)

A manual BMW will give you the best real world mpg, lowest emissions (and therefore BIK tax), and will be a very nice drive.

Merc will give you better level of standard equipment, and compared to e90 a better ride, but I think new F30's have upped the game.

Good that the forum contributors here are able to look at this objectively. Not sure you'd get that balance on other forums.

Shame that it looks as if the C class just can't compete on any level with the new 3, at least for a fleet user.

Would the OP go for a class up - say the facelift E class?

Remember also there are good cars besides "German" ones. :D

After 8 years in Mercedes, I've just defected to BMW....but I still have the Mercedes ML.
The 2 litre BMW engine with the 8 speed auto is a really good drive, for those who enjoy driving and those with Scrouge tendencies:o
Mine is in a 5 series estate and was chosen on merit as a private car, but with the incentives as a company car it's a bit of a no brainer.
Whatcar recon it's cheaper over 3 years to run a 5 series than a 3 series due to stronger residuals, and I get more space and more refinement.
Oh!....and sometimes as much as this...:D

Yes BMW are very strong on the fleet / company car front hence why I ran an E60 5 Series for just over 3 years instead of an E Class.

Having said that, Mercedes are now more agressively then ever targeting the fleet market.

The new 3 series is an impressive car, my sister has one (as a company car) and space wise it's a lot bigger than previous 3 series. One of my gripes with BMW is that the current 3, 5 & 7 series all look too similar.

Well, I thought I'd update this. Eventually (Ok, about 3 weeks ago) saw the co-car list.

BMW 1&3 series of various flavours
Ford Mondeo's
Merc C class and even 2 E Class, but the tax on E class was ridiculous.
Randon Passat's, Golfs
Audi A1 and A3's and even a Q3 (Mad tax)

And what did I choose?

Well, I settled on a new A-Class in blue. Delivery date is June 6th, must be quite a backlog.

A200 Diesel AMG Sport, Auto, Satnav, Audio 20 media pack (Bluetooth streaming etc), HK 11 Speaker System, privacy glass and climate. I wanted the night pack, but it was too expensive. My main thing in a car is audio so I am chuffed with that. I went and sat in a blue demo at Leicester Merc and liked the std interior too, leather isn't all it's cracked up to be and I like the alcantara/whatever on the seats and the fake leather bolsters.

Roll on June!

I don't think that you will be able to get into the C Class as much as I love it the BMW is the right Choice as a company car.

The new 3 with the 8 Speed auto is an amazing vehicle, I am not sure the manual will get near the fuel economy, that's why they are fitting the 8 speed box for increased economy.

I would go for a 320d Luxury with Auto Box in Dark Blue with Cream leather Vision pack and Premium Sat Nav.

Keep us posted ModMan.

It will be interesting to see if there is a "set change" in the A Class buyers.

Edit. Also to see how owners of the older A Classes rate the new ones. I know we have a couple of owners on here who have had old and new A Classes and they certainly prefer the newer one.

That is a lot of spec there is it mostly extras and if so did that not increase costs considerably?
