Magical mystery.... who mapped my car?

Without a file read we don't know. Insurance company are happy that it could be a good example of stock as its not quite up with a map figure. I need to investigate the stories regarding 2012 PPP cars being sold with mule BS software. Rumour is there were a few dozen red saloons, estates and couples rolled out in Europe and UK to test software prior to BS release. One car (red ppp coupe) surfaced early on when a Eurocharged map was requested.

Interesting, it reminds me in some ways of one of my Jap imports I bought ages ago. It was a Mitsubishi Pajero Evo it was a homologation model for the Paris-Dakar cars. I bought it after selling my Isuzu Vehicross which was about 220 BHP anyway I got in it and was a bit taken back by the way this quite heavy SUV accelerated so I took it along to a Jap meet rolling road session and it was just over 320 BHP now at the time the 'gentleman's' agreement with Japan was that no imported car was over 280 BHP.
It was great fun at the traffic lights although it did look a bit 'in your face'

Interesting never seen that mentioned anywhere before.

I'll see if I can find anything to back it up. Eurocharged apparently returned the map request because it read as a black series car with encryption and not the PPP that was in the workshop. Story goes that the software was rolled on to a few cars to check reliability before the full production model appeared.

Big thanks to Andy Boyt who came to my house today to map my C63. After sending the existing file to Eurocharged it was concluded that it was running a stock map. Happy days that it was so strong out of the box. I've only put 10 miles on the car since the map so i'm as yet unable to get a good vbox comparison, and it's also really wet today. It does however feel very different to drive and it pops and bangs on downshifts where it didn't before. The gearbox feels very sharp now too, not that it was substandard before. I've got a dyno session next saturday so it'll be interesting to see what the new map does over the stock 500bhp file.

The v5 should return a good result Eddie, hoping for a dry day or two

Good stuff....should be a easy 520-530 bhp with the map on with such strong stock figures.

You should look into a TCU remap for quicker shifting and if you get the upgrade on the TCU higher hydraulic line pressure so theoretically less chance of clutch slippage.

I was told the V5 map also updates the TCU,?

That's urban myth.....TCU has to come out to be re mapped. Probably feels quicker due to ecu "Rev"matching the TCU.

Ah, ok. Feels much sharper out of the driveway than it did. Less throttle required.

Hoping to go quicker than my stock figure of 8.4s 100-200kph with this map. Just need dry roads.

Congratulations on the remap, I'm looking at having mine done on the 27th. So hopefully will notice the difference too.

Are you attending the Rebellion day next Saturday ???

Regards Jim

Yeah, all being well I should be there.

Congrats, sounds good.

It still seems a bit strange that the throttle was opening so far as stock. Eurocharged told me the PP cars only open to about 75%. Delimited too?

I've not tried the factory Merc diff, but I can compare the C63 with a Quaife, with the M Diff in my Z4M. The Quaife acts much quicker. You barely get any scrabble from low speed / stationary, before it biases to the wheel with grip. Much better suited to something with monster torque low down, like the C63.

The Quaife does not 'lock', it biases torque. That's kind of the point of the thing :)

Have you got a noticeable improvement in performance since the remap ??

Not been able to test it properly yet. Yesterday was very wet out and today i've been in the Q7 all day with the missus and wee one. It certainly feels different though. Whether 'different' equates to faster on the road is yet to be seen.

On my private runway Vbox did show 8.9s 62-124 so it's 0.4s off my best dry time with stock map. I ran 8.5s in S+ and Sports handling with the stock map. Yesterdays wet time was in Comfort mode and TC on due to the rain. Time will tell.

Great! Looking forward to more feedback and figures. Would it be possible to log the throttle again? Cheers.

I still haven't got any new 62-124 / 100-200 figures but i do have some feedback having given the red rocket a decent run home tonight.

Many people get mods fitted and then write a really over zealous review to make out the car was **** prior to its new parts but is now god-like and twice as fast! The reality is 90% of the time a bit of placebo. However..........

As most of you know by now this is my second P31 C63. The first a pre-facelift that ran a perfect 487bhp stock pull at Surrey a couple of years back. It was then graced with a Eurocharged V4 map which bumped it up to a healthy 520bhp. But, that's all it did. I was happy with it mind you, because that's what it was purchased for!

Now, on Saturday Andy Boyt popped round to my house and applied the latest V5 map from Eurocharged to my stock, but 500bhp P31 facelift. The buzz was that the gearbox gets some sort of adjustment along with the engine map tweek so once the rain vanished I though it appropriate to get out and feel / hear for myself what this gearbox adjustment does. As I said above, many people get a mod fitted and go 'Wow', 'shock and awe', 'fastest / loudest ever' etc!! In this case I'm saying "I wasn't expecting that!!"

In C mode just pootling about the car is definitely sharper under the right foot. The gas pedal is not as long in the travel before finding power, even when reversing off the drive on a cold morning. The gearbox appears to be smoother in the uptake and it's as far as I can tell smoother when shifting with improved rev matching. But that's as far as it goes in C mode. So what else? S mode is too much of a halfway house for me so I selected S+ and Sports Handling next.

Flamin Norah!! How aggressive is this car now? It barks like a dog. It's so sharp on the pedal and gears that you don't have to worry about being in the wrong gear at any speed. Savage shifting is what we have now. There are some serious pops and bangs going on and the down-shift bark is ludicrous. How was this car not born like this??

The performance uplift is as yet unknown but if the car only gets this shift in mood then i'll be happy. For those who are unaware of the sounds created by the car here is a small video:

No imagine what that's like in mine with the secondary's and an X pipe fitted, it's mental mate the pop on upshift could wake a dodo and the downshift blips are awesome
