Didn't the car run fine prior to the fuel tank fitting (except for the leak)?

Forget it for ow Gav, 40th only comes once, the car will still be there afterwards. Have a good one tomorrow

Yes Sir it did, But the whole disturbance has caused them to run weak, the old filter was very very bad. Going to try and forget about it tonight as out with friends. Family day tomorrow.

^^^This.

You have had some crap luck with this one Gav. Can only hope things turn the corner for you soon.
As Abs says, forget the car, celebrate your birthday tomorrow and raise a glass to your Dad:thumb:

Hi Gav

Sorry to hear about the fuel problem, best wishes for the birthday, have some fun and forget about the car as others suggest.

Over the years we've had to do that a few times on motors (and other things), just walk away, forget it for a bit and take stock.
It will still be there when you come back and you will have had time to consider all the options.

On the fuel problem, I'm sure I seen a receipt (when I was doing my car spreadsheet) from Alps where he had replaced these in my E55, might be worth asking him as I think he may have done this job himself?

If you can rest the car up and wait, then do that.

Breaking it seems a shame given how long it took you to find one.

Happy Birthday!

Take a step back from the car and think of what is positive - sometimes we lose focus on the really important stuff...

Not ENTIRELY CLEAR but think your problem is that you may have two integral filters in the fuel line now one in your old pump " feed unit" and one in the new tank inner module A2114705094 which also has a fuel level sensor and integral fuel filter
the new A2114701794 feed unit has a fuel level sensor only. This would explain your reduced power.
It would help to know the part no of your old pump which you refitted? --- other older designs may be filter free??
to explain-it would appear that mercedes switched the location of the integrated fuel filter- in some cars its part of the fuel pump in some its part of the inner module- works fine if the two parts are compatible.

Here's a video of what an integral fuel filter looks like- in this case its part of the tank inner module with just a small filter assembly in the feed unit [pump] NOT that I am suggesting you do this !!! [ looks like an angle grinder was used at one point] as we are talking about electrical assemblies that are immersed in petrol- just goes to background info on integrated fuel filters.

Very handy, doesn't look all that hard, small Dremel, new filter and a jubilee clip, got to be worth a shot, I'd certainly give it a go.

But read the notes carefully first- suggests there is a bewildering series of combinations of
feed unit [ pumps] and tank inner modules ! Not all feed pumps will work with all inner modules they have to be matched. This would suggest that buying as a matched combo is the safest option meaning it may be best to stick with Mercedes for supply of your new A2114701794 feed unit . Like with the "wrong tank" thing if Mercedes get it wrong leastways they will have to swap it for the right one. If you go "off piste " and order one elsewhere its on your own head??

There's only one filter which sits in the LH side of the tank. There's a pair of sock filters attached to the fuel pumps that sit in the RH side of the tank. How exactly does this explain the reduced power?

There's aboslutely nothing "to match" and there's no need to go and buy a new "feed unit" at £400+.

All OP needs to do is make sure:

1) That the (very) convoluted system has been transplanted and reconnected correctly without any kinks in the fuel lines which run across the tank.

2) That the return line is feeding both swirl pots.

3) That both pumps have the power.

More thoughts:

- Measure the fuel pressure across the whole RPM range. The FPR is set to 5bar.

- Both pumps can be tested by supplying +12V to them to see if/how good they work (I have a spare pair for sale if required).

There's nothing else there, all very simple and straightforward if you take the time to study the fuel system. Practical experience is essential in "connecting the dots".

Sorry to hear about the latest knock mate.

Probably hard to comprehend now but, once all is said and done, you’ll probably look back and just shake your head - you WILL get the money to pay to fix it at some point and it WILL be tip-top and you can go back to enjoying it.

Now is the time to put it to one side and enjoy your birthday.

Both Feed unit and Oe pumps were re used bud, no new items fitted.

I have a brand new MB feed unit going in next hopefully part number A2114705094 really hoping that will cure the problem, if not i will need a good used A2114701794 fitted the other side, i cant go new mb as the only sell a2114701794 + a2114705094 + fitting kit as "1 complete unit" at £1,200

Thankyou guys for the birthday wishes, spent alot of time with the family and tried to forget about the car. Unfortunately i looked out of the window this morning and the car is still sitting on the drive waiting for me lol.

Here's hoping this fixes things.

You got EPC access to check part numbers there?

Hang on I'll do a quick check live on EPC for your VIN.......
