Tonight, while I am walking home, I see a Tesco van turning right into the next street.

However, the bloody van driver must have forgotten to close his rear door, because it's open and swaying round all over the place (and should have been visible in his rear mirror).

Predictably, as he goes past the first parked vehicle in that street, the door bangs against the car, obviously damaging it.

So, did he stop? Nope, just steps on it and drives straight off.

The owner of the damaged car was nowhere to be seen, so I left a note explaining what I saw and with my contact details on.

I'm not just appalled with this dreadful driver (and the bang of that door hitting that car was loud enough for him to hear), but equally so with all these other people who witnessed the incident and who all buggered off without leaving their details.

I just hope that driver did not go on to swipe someone off the footpath .

All I can say is you did the right thing by leaving the note, very thoughtful and shurely important to the owner. The thing you have to bare in mind about van drivers is that most of the time the van is not owner by the driver so drivers tend not to care about any damage to thier vans let alone other peoples vehicals...But at the same time there are ofcourse some very carefull van drivers.

Keep us posted if the owners gives you a shout

Well, I would hope that someone else would do the same for me, although judging by the attitude of the other people who saw the accident, it seems that chance is small .

Will do.

I've had my car damaged twice in my work's car park. It is a large Pharmaceutical company and I would have expected a note to be left but nothing. One of the scratches is very deep and unsightly. The other was a dent over the front right wheel. Some people don't give a t0ss these days.

I saw a Tesco delivery van driving like a pr@, coming out of the access road to a store in Reading, whilst I was at the beer festival there. (And no, I wasn't ****** at the time!), I had to take avoiding action in my car as it swung around a corner at excessive speed, with the driver on a mobile telephone.

Spoke to the manager of the store there and then, explained very nicely that his driver was driving like an idiot and words were needed. Could not have been less interested, and basically told me unless I "had the registration" he would not be able to find out who it was- And quite frankly did not give a toss at all.

I identified himself as a police officer at that point, and told him that due to his attitude his delivery vehicles were likely to be attracting a great deal of police attention in the very near future... Muppet.

All that was needed was a little interest and a sincere "I'll have a word". Since he couldn't be ****d, I "had a word" with Thames Valley Police- Hopefully Pat and Carl from Roadwars are on the case as we speak!

wouldnt mind tho tesco would have covered all the damages anyways with their insurance - so there was no need for him to just drive off!!!

maybe the van was on tesco insurance and they did not want their NCB to go bust on thier policy

Tesco's abundance in all things financial and grocery is sometimes a blessing and a curse!

I recall a while back some lady who slipped on paving outside a Tesco store trying to mount a case using the legal cover on her household insurance, and then being told that Tesco cannot sue itself and they would not proceed!!!

And recycled, I take it you're referring to the recent Jag pursuit on Roadwars? I do agree his batoning skills are a little less than prime.

I cannot speak though, having done the exact same to a colleague a while ago...

maybe - i know a guy who works as a tesco van driver - and they have a system that they use when a driver has an accident.

which is the driver in the accident is called up over the phone and is asked to explain what happened, and once that is done tescos then put the drivers staement to 3 other tesco van drivers and two driving instructors, then a decision is then made. And basically if all 3 drivers say it could not be avoided then the driver would be let off the hook. But if they say it was avoidable then its strike one!! and your only allowed 2 strikes, then you go onto a driver training course -
