For unleaded petrol;
the Fuel duty is 60.97p
the Vat is 23p
60.97+23 = 83.97p

The retail price is 140p

How is 83.97p 75% of 140p? :dk:

If Dallas is 5000 miles from London (4750 so some say) and the fuel bill was £5000

then my C63 shapes up quite well having done 30,000 miles for say £10,000

...i think ( i will get my "double maths" son to check that when he gets in ) unless DM can oblige!

even better if its £50,000 ...a frugal C63 whatever next

One that can go 5000 miles at 565mph.

I hope you've got in car TV...I think your 4 passengers might get a bit bored non stop to Dallas.

How many trips will you have to do to ferry all 660 passengers?

30k miles to £10k is (as I'm sure you know) 30p per mile.
Lets be generous and say you have been a taxi driver with 3 passengers on board for all those miles, so it 10p per passenger mile...at ~40mph average.

Now lets look at the 747...
4750 miles and £50k gives £10.52 per mile.

...But the plane flies nearly full for all journeys so £10.52/660 = 0.15p per passenger mile at 565 mph.

not looking so good...

its a rough guess , !!!!! its gone up more while you where working that out lol , !! very good i am impressed ! bet you work at the coop !!

A fact that shocked me yesterday was that only in 2006 the fuel price was 89p.... now its pushing £1.50 just 6 years later... amazing.

In fact I recall it being touch and go as to whether a member of this forum would be true to his word and dance naked on the Town Hall steps as the petrol price dipped to 80p per litre.

For my car at nearly 115000 miles, over nearly 11 years, at 5.5 miles per litre (25mpg) and an average of £1.12 per litre ((then+now)/2) comes to £23.4k.

Not bad really! The depreciation is at least twice that much.

25mpg? You are clearly not driving your car how AMG intended!!!!

I'd love to but sadly slower things tend to get in the way! ;) Unless I have a clear run I tend to take it easy, there is usually another queue around the corner!

The CLK55 isn't bad on juice tbh.

I remember when my mother used to drive me about, unleaded was 45p!

This is a phone-pic of my instrument cluster after my evening commute home last night. I should add that this was a 75% motorway trip, I didn't bust 70mph at any point and there is a 50-section during the roadworks on the M6.

This is exceptional though as traffic was fairly light, I typically get around 26-27mpg when there is more stop-start.
