OM642 PCV Upgrade

You would need to take it apart to know for sure.

Dont want to have to take apart my BRAND NEW ONE in case I break it! Guess order another.....

Thought somone may know....i.e. does it still have the spring and rubber valve/piston ?

I have 57 ML with OM642 and have fitted a Catch Can with internal Baffles. My question is, as not very clear....the actual PCV valve itself as pic:-

Which I have fitted, has this been changed internaly in any way or as I suspect, is the "updated part" people refer to the above with the changed and modified PIPE and the seal on the end of the fume heater?
In simple terms, does the above still have a spring and diaphragm inside? Only ask as mines current in the Garage for NEW Oil cooler+Seals Swirl Motor and swirl fix and we talked about this...garage seems to think the new ones dont have the valve inside and simply have some sort of spiral channel that makes it harder for actual oil to get past?
Reason? My catch can can have a Filter added....but the valve if still used would not close on vacume due to this....but if the "new updated" PVC does not have a valve in it, I think this would help.
Hi bud can I bug you for the hose size you got for the breather to catch can. What length and what connectors u used as just for a new breather myself and wanna run the catch can or do you have any links to the hose n connectors u used cheers Darren

12mm internal pipe suitable for oil/oil vapour and any baffled catch can.....I mounted in front of the fuse box.....front left of engine bay. Ordered way more pipe than I needed as always comes in handy....

Has anyone tried the wynns engine stop leak see if it helps with the valve stem seals being a possible cause

Cheers bud il get looking into this ASAP

Because the OM642 doesn't appear to have any sort of tortuous labyrinth path on this crankcase breather, does this mean all of these engines have sopping wet intercoolers full of oil? I mean, with no catch can or gravity drain, where exactly is all this vented oil going to go? (except the lowest point, which is the intercooler)

On my rubbish Insignia, there is a plastic vortex cone on the back of the engine; it has 3 pipes.
1. the breather pipe from the crankcase. The gases enter the cone here. They are then forced through a spiral from outside to inside. This helps to force droplets of liquid to fall out of suspension in the air due to the rapid change of direction.
2. another pipe tanks the gases after the labyrinth and pipes them back to the turbo inlet, and they should be less 'wet' due to the labyrinth.
3. In the centre of the labyrinth, there is a pipe at the bottom that runs down to the sump pan, returning any liquid that is removed by the labyrinth.

my plan is to run the new breather and catch can pull the inter cooler off drain any/all that’s in there also thinking of adding some wynns engine stop leak meant to be good to replenish the valve stem seals and all rubbers not sure if anyone has used it on these wanted to know if was worth the try it’s a pita car drives lovely just the smoke after idling for 7-10mins but I do notice if I leave it idle or in abit of heavy traffic for a few mins then drive with abit of smoke from the build up if I put the peddle to the floor for a quick boot it hesitates let’s out the rest of smoke and couple seconds after if I kick down it’s perfect so also wondering if it’s getting a blockage somewhere or if there’s oil build up in turbo

Thought somone may know....i.e. does it still have the spring and rubber valve/piston ?
U should b able to see the spring inside bud if ur having trouble seeing in there get ur lips around the end that goes to turbo pipe and give a little suck should b able to hear the suction and close

You'd never get away with sitting on idle for 7-10 minutes where I live......some apprentice Gretta Thumberg or new-mother would be screaming at you for polluting the local air!

Seriously though, why would you want to listenn to that diesel racket for 7-010 minutes? It would drove me mad!

yes get them sort round ere to but sometimes **** help it most the time it’s sitting in traffic that builds it up depending on the amount there is but it’s more that it shouldn’t be smoking even with the sitting it’s just a pita lol just wanna sort it

Mine just pass MOT....warning (advisory) for smoke at idle but would not effect other drivers! Give us 10-12 months to at least run it and I hope burn off or clear out its throat after all the work!

Just did the catch can and new breather taken it for a drive now got oil coming up n out the dipstick any help ere would be great getting to b a right pita now lol

Then is not breathing...sounds like you effectivly blocked off the PCV.....did you use propper pipe....if not once engine warm the pipe could collaps....photos would help!
Pipe from PCV should goto catch can "in" then "out" should goto the little heater and turbo inlet....also is it a baffled catch can...if not there still a chance the turbo can suck up oil as it drips in.....route.jpg

I agree. Sounds like excessive engine pressure now, so I would recommend not driving until you have this sorted (or at least returned to original condition), otherwise you risk blowing out seals e.g. crankcase, which would be very undesirable

Think your right I knew I shouldn’t of used the shit hose they sent with the can not a baffled 1 either but for now il bypass the can do same trip again and make sure it’s not pushing oil outta the dipstick tube any links to decent pipe cheers bud for the reply
