Car
Clk 200k cab Avantgarde 2002, C Class 2004 54reg Avantgarde SE C230K, A class 1999 Avantgarde 170cdi
Picked up my clk 200k cab got home looked in owners manual and found a problem already outside temp display isnt working, and the drivers seat is ripped sticking come undone was ok when i saw it 7 days ago, i have a warrenty, but im pi*sed off now, thinking of taking it for a mot tomorrow even though it as 12 months done by the garage see if it passes..what would you guys do...Regards :(

If you think that the car may not be all that it seems then I would certainly get it checked over by a local mechanic.

If you think you may be in for a fight with the dealership/garage then I suggest you arm yourslef with plenty of ammo but be realistic (consider the price you paid, age, etc etc)

good luck

temp readout is a common fault, sometimes easy fixed (search here for cluster repairs) failing that u can send your cluster off for temp and time dispays to have a perm fix for less that 200, so keep this cost in mind when u decide what your going to do

Hello

What sort of garage did you buy it from? indy / dealer / non merc?

I would check everything on the car fully yourself also, check the roof, where it folds also as the roof can damage here.

I cannot remember what year you said it is but you have to be realistic as above. Its a second hand car and by the nature of that it will need / have wear and tear items.

puts a downer on your excitment but hopefully easily fixed.

Just a High quailty dealer sell bentleys, big alpina bmw's and audi v6 and bmw mini's, so to me high quality cars and he seems very honest, have just notice a split in valance at the front as well which was'nt there when my mechanic went round it 7 days ago, as i checked myself..., hope it passes its mot of there will be hell to pay, and ill make him pay for mercedes dealer repairs and bills, learnt how to use the computer says service 700miles B service how much is this and what is a B service ..??? year is 2001

Would have gone over it with a fine tooth comb before I accepted it. Sorry mate, but been stung before!

It means a B service ( the expensive one ) is due in 700 miles ...

It would have been reset to 10000 miles after its last service ( an A service , cheap one ) , so it has been driven 9300 miles (ish) since the last time it was serviced ..

Doubt they'll pay for main dealer repairs , if anything they will offer to repair it themselves. Are you sure the splits weren't there before ?

Splits in the front valance can be sorted yourself easily with a hot air gun ( i did mine where it had been caught on a kerb ) , you have to accept that the car is 8 years old , it won't be perfect. However if ALL this damage has occurred in the few days since you viewed it ( and you can be sure ) then i would be asking myself what has been going on with the car while you were away ...

Are you sure you have the same front bumper and seats as the ones you agreed to buy...or even the same car..

dont say that... i bet he as been using it or is wife.. car is the same one as it had a little scratch minor on back bumper cant see unless you get on your knees and that is still there.........

Probably deserves it but, he'll probably find away to wriggle out. If he's an honest high quality dealer as you mention then why not return the car and get a refund or give him an oppurtunity to resolve the issues. failing that the good old consumer credit act comes in very handy!

In short its a buyer market, I would be royally hacked off and let him know!

Hello

To put it into perspective.

1) Valance as mentioned can be fixed yourself
2) Pixel problem poss £200 fix
3) Seat repair? I had a price on my old car for some stitching and dye it was about £100 repair
4) Service is a bumer...but indy price should be ok? £300

Without the service, which any car you look at may or may not need the cost to fix the bits isn't too bad. If its an 8 year old car you have to expect a few little things. Sounds like with the above done its still a 9/10 as you say

I would go to the garage and speak to the sales guy / manager / owner and see how he reacts to what you tell him. You never know he may be ok they are not all bad...

Are you able to post any pics of the damage?

'Tis an older car, so you have to expect some wee spends on it. Dealer would have known service was due. both from the service book (unless the last owner lost it!!) and the 'puter. Mind you he would also know how to reset the "next service due" indicator methinks, so perhaps he did not know. Seat tear would have been obvious to a dealer. Looks like he shafted you ever so slightly, but he will be expecting you back. Its a game some dealers play. Play the game to win, keep cool, present the facts and see what he comes up with. Apart from that, enjoy your motor, sounds great, away from the faults you have found.

You could do the pixels yourself too ... easy enough ...

99.9 % of 8 year old CLK's will have a dodgy pixel problem , so it isn't just you ...

I doubt the dealer would point faults out...........

but unfortunaetly yes the buyer maybe should have looked more closely before signing the hard earned over.

Fact is, shinney new to you car sat on forecourt and you just want to drive it. It isn't that easy? maybe having a friend with you would have helped.

Its done now so upwards and onwards hopefully you will get a result

like i said earlier in my posts going for M.o.t tomorrow see if he is genuine as it was done on the 9th April 2009 before bank holiday friday just gone.. i hope it passes or i will be locked up for next 12 months..lol, ill try to keep calm but when i have paid £8k cash, saved for 2years, listening to all your replys the pixel problem im not bothered about but will mention it, i know if its cold or hot myself, the valance and the stitching thats has come undone , was ok when we test drove it because i checked all the seat for cig burns scratches and there was none this is one of the reason i liked the car...
