picked up new car , problems already

If its £500 to perfect your car and get it serviced that doesnt sound like a fortune, IMHO no used car you buy is perfect and they all need something spending on them which I would factor in when buying. I doubt the dealer would have fixed the seat but you could have chipped them a little on it ?

You could do the pixels yourself too ... easy enough ...

99.9 % of 8 year old CLK's will have a dodgy pixel problem , so it isn't just you ...

I have the 0.01% then :D

The pixel problem is the least of your worries. 99.9% of W208 CLK's have that problem and a similar percentage rusty rear wings - check these and if their rust free the other problems are a much less bigger deal.

Saying that under 8 years old Merc should agree to pay for any rust - they have just agreed to do my offside rear wing which as a tiny 5p sized patch bubbling through on the inside.

As has been said - it's a oldish car, it's not going to be perfect in every respect. What you can expect though is straight title to ownership and no major mechanical defects.

Doesn't seem to be any great issues and looks like it's been well looked after/lowish mileage etc. Whip the cluster out and fix the pixel issue, few quid to get the trim sorted and maybe the valance as well - sounds like it's a nice example.

The cost of the MOT would probably pay for the trim repair...:)

I got "caught" with 1500 miles to Service B when I bought my car.

Personally... I am glad the garage I bought the vehicle from didn't service it before I took possession.

I was a bit miffed the service was so close, and I know I paid over £500 for a service (including aircon service, fuel filter, yadda yadda) but I get to keep the FMBSH up together and I know that someone independent has examined the car.

What I would say to Simon is to treat these minor (for an eight year old car) issues as what they are and get out and revel in the reason he bought the car.

It can be too easy to spoil your enjoyment of something soooo great :-)

As folks that know me will confirm, when buying a second-hand car, i am quite fussy.

We always tendf to get the details of the previous MOT and then log onto the MOT site and look at the Advisorarys that were documented at the time of the previous MOt. These are a great way of seeing what is wearing and what might need replacing.

Certainly NOT perfect, but it cost nothing and can save a lot of heartache..

if you are buying from a so called reputable dealership then I would have gone to a Mercedes-Benz Main dealer. At least you can take the thing back and dump it on their forecourt

Your definition of reputable might be different from mine though so aplogies if our wires re crossed :)

Our Approved Used Car Programme guarantees the incomparable driving experience that you expect of Mercedes-Benz.

We scrutinise every car to guarantee you the peace of mind you would normally associate with buying a brand new car. Only vehicles that have passed our rigorous safety, mechanical, electrical and history checks are awarded our 12 months' unlimited mileage warranty, 12 months' roadside assistance and our 30-day / 1,000-mile exchange plan.

Would a MB dealer sell an 8 year old car ?

I always assume it will be spot on mechanically or will be made spot on and anything visual is buyer beware - I always buy on that premise and pay accordingly for the vehicle

I imagine they would if it was low mileage, excellent condition etc - rare though I must admit.

All sounds like a storm in a tea cup to me....

There's a few (very minor) niggles on an 8 year old car and the OP is threatening to thump the dealer...nice...

From the description you've given, you've bought a nice honest car with extensive history and one or two cosmetic issues.

Are you expecting your car to be factory fresh after 8 years of life?

Hi you are all forgetting when i test drove the car and took a mechanic the car was perferct no ripped seat, and the front valance was perfect, he takes deposit then i pick the car up and these problems have appear, spoke to him today and he is send a proffesional stitcher who makes seats for all cars, flew though its M.O.T so happy there nothing hiding, so just seat and the car will be great.. remember these problems have appear in the last 6 days, and if it was your car how would you feel when the car you saw was perfect then find some problems have appear, as for thumping if he gave any poo, i not rich as many on here are not either, but when i have saved for 2years, spent many pounds on fuel looking at different merc's and i have 2 children who always want things ,it has been hard and the ressesion my work as cut my hours from 40 to 30 hours aweek, as it hard for most of us...............

I would have pointed it out politely to the dealer at the time of collection and asked him to rectify the problems. Which it appears by your post above He seems to have readily agreed to without any confrontation at all.

Storm in a teacup as I said.

I agree - does sound a bit like a storm in a teacup. A couple of trivial faults and the dealer is already sorting it out by the sounds of things - doesn't sound like a bad guy to me

Not being funny but I can't imagine that he sat there and unpicked 1 1/2" of stitching just for fun...

I'm sure it'll all get sorted :)

Have found out that he let one of his employees use it over the bank holiday, as he said he would polish it and he is making him pay for it, and he will be giving him is p45, and i have just had phone call from him saying sorry, the guy who took it at weekend.....
so i am happy now. seat being fixed next week , the seat is coming out and will be stitch from behind so will look as if it had never happened..:bannana:

Glad you've got it sorted mate.

Personally i wouldn't have parted with any money , or driven it away ( presumably you gave it the once over before you drove it off his forecourt ) if it wasn't in the same condition as when i previously viewed it ...

Sounds like it is all going to end amicably though !

yep thankyou Howard...feel abit better ,now i can enjoy my motor, will be going to the lakes on saturday, Today after the M.O.T i drove home knowing everything is safe , some people say the 200k is not that powerful, not bragging but i nearly poo'ed my pants it growled and shot forward, i had to take my foot of the accelerator as i was nearly hitting 110mph's and it didnt feel that fast as it was that smooth and quite, i realised when i was flying passed other drivers....

Power isn't everything .... I love the CLK cabrio , i would still have my 320 cab if it hadn't been written off by a scrote on a roundabout ....

MY OLD 320 CAB

Glad it all ended well, the day I picked mine up it started misfiring 40 miles up the A3 from the dealer.

They came and collected it, sorted it and left me a full tank of fuel, very fair I thought.

Hello

Glad your sorted and happy, just be careful doing those speeds in the uk you will not have a nice car for long.

Having had a few convertibles (never a merc) I tended to find the quicker car I actually bought you just end up cruising, roof down shades on :) :)

Post some pics when you can.
