That's outrageously good! What year & mileage is your vehicle?

Hi Francis,

Year 2001, 102000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whoaaaaaaaaaaa.........my oil burner!!!!!!!!!btw i'm in cambridge too, so watch out for my plate!!:)

Scary stuff

Just filled my 1st tank full at 280 miles...200komp C Class estate...looks like lots of visits to the pumps...I didn't buy it for fuel consumption though, big smiles

That's it settled! I have to trade mine for a Diesel now!!!

Not quite taxi driver!!!!!! I recently purchased the car at around 98000 miles on the clock and am a family man/research engineer. I think the recent chipping has increased the MPG by 4-5. The previous owner (a vehicle managment fleet) maintained the car well (FMBSH) so i feel the car is a peach. But you know, when i take the car for a nice and gentle ride around cambridge (when there's low traffic), i've gotten MGP readings like 45-48, average strolling speeed of 40ish, i don't know why but that damn pleasing!!!!!!!
anyhow that's my star for you!

OK mate, good result, I take it all back, feel rather envious actually  although I do love my trusty old 3-litre barge which has NEVER let me down ... Have a great day!

270 min
340 max (going as far as I dare into the reserve)

Now, my normal mileage from a tank wihout going into the reserve (52 litres) is about 310 miles or there abouts. This is driving mostly on flowing national speed limit roads in a pretty spirited manor, over taking and making as much progress as I can - ie lots of dropping down a gear or too and high revs.

So, although having tried before, I thought I would try again to drive for a whole tank of fuel conservativly and see just how many miles I could get.

So same car, same fuel, same journeys. However I adjusted my driving style to annoyingly sedate. Gear changes as low as possible - about 2500 rpm, with a 3000rpm limit - never went over 80mph (3000rpm in 5th), I drove smoothly as possible without braking and accelerating again etc. I even switched the AC which is on 100% to the EC position for some trips.

The result? I got about 320 miles - something I sometimes get driving as I normally would. I thought I mustn't have tried properly last time I tried this - but my car just doesn't like going slow!

Good really, no guilt for full gas max revs through the gears driving :D

Currently I'm getting 310miles to the yellow light coming on with mixed driving often in rush hour ie 27mpg but have done a 33.3mpg driving very slowly(!) so in theory my car could, in perfect conditions and no traffic, and a following wind do 452miles . It will never happen.

Worse ever was 19mpg !!!!! Once only I promise!

Graham, are you saying that your car has gone from 270 to 310 since chipping?

im going on hol's next saturday so will make some calc's for the car then
i filled up the transporter two weeks ago, it's done 160ish miles since not yet down to quarter mark, will keep an eye on it.

My experience of Cambridgeshire is the flat fen land areas. Yorkshire and other areas have blooming great mountains that will easily see fuel consumption figures die.

Going downhill is more economical but the 'swings' do not negate the 'roundabouts' so I would expect to see more impressive figures from drivers who live in nice flat rural areas compared to drivers that have to continually either negotiate steep hills or inner city stop go motoring.

E55 averaging 19.5 mpg over last 4k miles = 17.5 gals x 19.5 gives 327

but on the basis of this -

5vsikm

should be capable of 470 plus.

I have comfortably done Macclesfield - London return [380ish] twice now, [with speed limiter set at 80, cruising @ 75ish]. Traffic on the M6 usually plays havoc with the figures

It will - once. And once only. Or it did to me. And since then I've been doing my head in trying to make it happen again  :D

No. That's just how much variation I get depending on whether I am going for it, or really going for it!

I think fuel consumption is generally worse since the remap, but nothing too drastic.

Hi Graham,
Did you see Jeremy Clarkson drive 'conservatively' from London to Edinburgh and return on one tank of fuel, and is that how you drove in your 'conservative' attempt? ;) ;)

Similar yes. I really was crawling. I mean you cant change up less than than 2000ish rpm without making the engine labour.

I was using the cruise control to stop any slight wavering of the throttle (I know Jeremy avoided cruise at times as he could control better).

I really don't understand. The C230K is suppossed to be the most fuel efficient petrol engine w202!

23/24 mpg, and thats been light footed
darent check fuel consumption after iv e been naughty. :) c32 amg

Yeah I think my fuel consumption went down simply because I was driving harder after the chip was done. Conversely though I think if I drive like a saint I can get slightly better mpg because the engine is running more efficiently.

BTW. At my MOT CO2 was nil and ppm was only 17ppm!! so its running clean..
