Wife's car after a quick polish

Here are the results after a couple of minutes with the "Porter Cable" once again I used Auto Glym Super Resin.

Now you see less green and more reflection!! :D

Maguiars Gold Class is a combined Wax/Polish like AutoG super resin. I gave them a call sometime ago to check this out. Meguiars advise using Scratch X and then Meguiars Gold Class to deal with swirls. I tried this by hand but it did not solve the problem for me. Hence investing in the polisher. My swirls are greatly reduced now. I think I may give it another go over in a few weeks to see if I can completely remove all of them but I am becoming and obsesive perfectionist.

I am going to try some Gold Class once I have exhaused all my AutoG super resin. I have heard the wax wizard is not bad for application, they are also available on ebay.

After buying the Gold Class and using it a number of times I noticed a number of marks on the car, from flies, tar etc which hadn't been removed from washing it. Autoglym would always remove these without any effort, but Gold Class did not which is how they built up. Maguiars sell a cleaner wax for this purpose but that doesn't give a particularly great shine, so I've gone back to Autoglym. I did use the Gold Class at the weekend though, but I won't be buying any more.

Just ran out of Auto G super resin, did a BMW for sisters boyfriend with the PorterCable, and have bought some GoldClass this morning. If the sun goes in I will give it a go and update you on the results. The chap in the shop said he liked Gold Class as it seems to repel dust better than Auto G Super Resin!?. We will see what happens.

Made a big mistake this morning by washing car with wash mitt. I seem to have inflicted very fine swirl into the wax surface!!!. I think I need some advise on what to use when washing a car, nothing seems to work for me  I am getting frustrated.

I have been reading this with great interest and have followed all the links. I had an idea, I have a Black & Decker random orbital round sander, with the kit was a selection of polishing/buffing pads. I decided to give it a try, it seems to work very well. I have just polished the bonnet and wings on my Ford tractor, (wasnt going to experiment on my car now was I!!). I used a mild cutting compound followed by Gold Class, the dull scratched paint has been transformed, nearly like new but then I guess when it was new the paint was not that good anyway.

Before I tackle the Golf with it and then my MB, any tips as to what polish/wax to use? The Golf has a few swirls and both cars are dark.

Has anyone tried Meguiars NXT Tech wax? I need some more polish and some of the US forums have recommended this stuff. I then saw this video. look how it seems to disguise the swirl marks.

It convinced me enough to try some. Its now on order, so I'll let you know when I get a chance to try it.

Cheers, Robbo

I bought the £99 battery-powered orbital buffer from http://www.extremecarcare.co.uk/ and look forward to a polish session this w/e. :o

Anyone used this buffer as compared to the 220V version mentioned in this thread?

I did have a 12v one that plugged into the car adaptor, it was so bad it was terrible. Had no power or speed, better off by hand.

Interesting to see how the cordless one performs, it should be OK if it is like a cordless drill.

I would hope that spending £99 on a Meguiars branded cordless one should vouch for some quality??!!

Will report back when I get to use it this w/e...

Robbo,

I've used Meguiars Gold Class Wax for nearly a year now, it's very good. I sent off for a free sample of NXT Tech Wax from the Megs website site - the sachet is enough to do about 2 cars, unless you have a stretch limo.

Application is very easy, great finish, deep shine. Only obbos I'd make from my experience is it appeared to leave more white residue than Gold Class when you polished it off and my car seems to have become a dust magnet since! It could be that the former was caused by using too much and the latter just because of the dry weather lately, I won't know until I use the rest of the sachet! The peeps on the Megs forum seem to love it.

Special offer on Porter Cable.

The Porter Cable mains powered unit is also badged by Meguiars in the US. It is the same unit. The Battery powered unit is very good, it does not have the same power and control however, it may be worth spending the little extra and getting the Mains Powered PC. There are lots of debates about Battery vs Mains in various forums and I decided to go for mains.

Autopia are doing a Father's Day special (limited offer) with an extra $20 off the PC kit including pads making it $159 plus your postage so now is the best time to get this, your bill will be just over £100 with the current exchange rate. Down load the ebook from the first post in the thread and connect from the ebook to the autopia site to get this offer.

Remember the pads are really cheap in the US so if you need pads get them via the ebook.

I have also put in a new link on the first post in the thread on a "How to use the PorterCable 7424". This is a really excellent guide put together by the experts in the US.

......After seeing Goldfish's Porter Cable on Sunday I have ordered one for myself, the 'ultimate polisher kit'. Should be here for the weekend. Can't wait!! Farewell to swirl marks....

Great news - I hope you ordered it through the e-book link so I get my brownie points from Autopia!

Best stuff to put on it for Swirl is Meguiars No9 Swirl Remover. Check out www.extremecarcare.co.uk for this stuff. Also that Meguiars NXT TechWax is good stuff. This gave me the finish I had at the Sunday GTG.

Thinking of buying a random orbital polisher. Seen one on Screwfix. It's manufactured by Ferm, it seems too cheap to be true compared to other makes. - See it at http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=13784&ts=53687.
Has anyone used this model before?

I have not heard of this one, make sure you can control the speed - The Porter Cable has this facility. Also check out the rotation rate some move at 10000 Oscillations per minute and this is far to fast for Car Care.

Put a thread on the Meguiars website forum and also the autopia.org forum, the chaps who use these are far more obsessive than myself so may know the answer.

Remember one benefit of the Porter Cable is that thousands of people use them so you can always get sound advice.

Thanks for using the e-book link ;)

The Autopia site automatically calculates the Postage based on weight. Just select INTERNATIONAL and U.K. and it does the rest. You can go through the purchase procedure but then not do the final click if you want a quote.

My total costs are broken down on my first entry on this thread, yours will be similiar.

Screwfix is best place for transformer and extension lead, postage is free on orders over about £50 (Which is stupid considering a transformer weighs nearly 20Kg). I have given the product code details in my first entry on the thread.

$160 dollars is an excellent price I paid $180. do order some extra pads as they are really cheap and dont increase postage much. The ones I use most are the white polish pads and the Gray finish pads.
