Recent purchase thread

I bought these at National Alfa Day at Bicester yesterday. This was my first Alfa, I bought a used 1989 one in 1994. My favourite car to date, I loved it! It was £9750 in 1989 and I paid £2600 for mine, I still have the newspaper advert cutting. Alas these things rusted like nothing else. At 3 years old mine had already had new rear arches welded in. But they were sublime.

It used to be said that if you loved to be in and around garages a lot, buy an Alfa.. but that when they were driving well, it was something else, in every sense of the word!

Good friend of mine traded in his Bently for and Alfa - which I think was a GTVP although I cannot find that designation online - in Andorra, I had the pleasure of driving it a few times and it was superb - but I also had the "pleasure" of being a rear seat passenger from Andorra to Barcelona to put him onto a flight back to Amsterdam for work - the drive back, in the passenger seat with his wife driving, was so much more comfortable!!

This evening my GTV picked up the owners club Surrey Section concours award for 1995-2012 cars! Hoorah! Alfas from the late 1990s are much more durable. My S212 has had far more go wrong with it than the Alfa, though it is more complex I guess. I do think Mercedes are a bit like Alfas though, in that they get under your skin and you forgive them!

Ah I think you mentioned before - it was a GTV6 Alfetta? They are beautiful. Alex Jupe is the guru for these - he race preps them for people as well as restorations.. He was a judge at this evenings club concours and his GTV6 is literally perfect. There was an infamous race car Alfetta at National Alfa Day yesterday. I’ll post a photo. It’s brutal looking with a 3.8 turbo motor….

Congratulations on a fantastic achievement!

This is Ian Stapletons monster 3.8 V6 turbo….not really what you’d call a sleeper!

Is there a better looking engine this side of a Ferrari than an Alfa V6??
😍
Ha ha, well Guiseppe Busso who designed it was Tech Director at Ferrari and involved with the Colombo V12 so I guess that’s where some inspiration came from!

As to my cars over the last couple of years , the CLK is on 105k , the E on 135k .
They have both had discs, pads and all calipers overhauled
, new shocks and springs all round,
both had gearbox services and too many unnecessary engine oil changes .
Power steering fluid , coolant ,diff oils renewed .
Standard stuff really :)
And they're both still only babies at that mileage!!

Beautiful car.......but oh dear.....DRIVING GLOVES......what are you, like 90!??
Driving gloves became redundant when they stopped fitting Bakelite steering wheels unless you are on a race track and they are flame proof. 😄
Ha ha I love them! I must admit when I first got them I wasn’t sure, but I just love driving with them now. They’re Dents Donnington if you feel the urge. Originally I got a pair for my Dad and thought “Ooh they’re actually rather nice” so got some as well.

Ha ha, I shall not be dissuaded from the joy of driving gloves, despite the ridicule! 😁 Actually, I also have a special driving hat. Though I don’t actually use it for driving. It’s a bit faded now.
