Recommendations for a Car Insurance broker (Moved to the UK from Oz and need help)

[FONT=&quot]My family has just moved to the UK from Australia and like a kid in a toy shop, I am gagging to buy an AMG or M5. I started calling insurance companies yesterday and was disappointed to be told that they would not insure me for such high performance cars until l held car insurance in the UK for at least one year. Which means I would need to buy a mundane car. And drive it for a whole year. I cried. [/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]I figure my best chances of securing insurance on one of these cars is to go through an insurance broker who knows all the available companies out there and those that will cover a male in his early 40’s with an impeccable driving record. I have letters from my insurers in Australia testifying to my awesomeness etc.[/FONT]

Search GSI insurance Rushden, I use them for my traders policy.

Very helpful and knowledgeable with a personal touch, I can't recommend them highly enough.

I insure my (11-y-o) C270 through LV via a CSMA discount scheme.

CSMA = Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA Club: Civil Service discounts, Insurance, Breakdown).
I've never been a civil servant but worked for a company that has a government contract, which means I qualify.

You may want to check out Swinton - they managed to get Aviva to accept my Bahamas NCD (albeit only 3yrs) last year and get me insured while still on Bahamian DL. The good news is this year insurance cost me just over half of the last year's one

There are variations, but I think it's generally fifteen years or older.

Quite a few of the specialist brokers can arrange classic insurance for cars much younger than that.

Mine does classic cover for MBs over five years old, the CLK55 was 7-and-a-bit when I bought it and has been on classic ever since

Premium was less than a third of the next cheapest quotes for mainstream insurance - so it's well worth shopping around

Hi there, if you have had or still have cover with an Aussie insurance agency (I have been and still am with AAMI for my 280TE which is still in Oz), and the documents clearly show the rating, you can have this applied to an insurance agency here. I only recently learned of this, so only last week I scanned and emailed my AAMI Rating One details to Admiral, where I have my BMW and Porsche insured. They said on the phone that they will improve my rating and will refund me pro rata. Should be in place very soon. Hope this helps.

I tried a couple of the majors today and got the same response, no we dont recognise your Australian NCB and you must hold a UK drivers licence. I soon figured there was no point calling anymore and that smaller specialised insurers or a broker was the go.

This company come up in a Google search as accepting foreign drivers licences including Australian and that they recognise NCB's from foreign insurers. I will call them in the morning, fingers crossed.

Thats good to know, my NCB letters are from AAMI but I no longer have cover with them, cancelled it about 6 weeks ago now.

Thanks for all the advice in this thread. When l started it l really thought l was in for some grief in securing insurance but it turned out to be quite easy. One call to Adrian Flux and l had comprehensive insurance with an Australian drivers licence and they recognised my 6 years NCB. Bought a pretty loaded low mileage E60 M% and insured it with AF for just 1150 quid. I reckon that's a good deal given my situation, it should, only go down for subsequent years
