Due to a kind member on here I am now able to re-set these faults with a Star.

I did one today and it worked perfectly. No warnings are currently showing at all.

BBA charge £575+vat for this.:eek::eek::eek:

I can do it much cheaper for members on here.:p:D

Sounds interesting. What is it you are actually resetting?

The brake aplications. After a certain amount of pushes to the brake pedal it gives this warning.

MB will replace the whole pump at a cost of about £1600!

SBC just confuses me...so are you actually "fixing" anything or just reprogramming the unit? Does the unit actually fail at some point in its life??

It is a re-set.

I have to re-set valus in hidden menus.

I have not seen many complete SBC failures but it does happen. Most of the warnings are due to this exact warning message.

One Finnish MB forum member opened one SBC which has reached counter limit, and there was about 1/3 of electric motor brushes gone. So can be done once, at least if no brushes and contact rings replaced. What other (heavily) wearing parts SBC includes?

Otherwise any other part could fail (hydraulic accumulator, brake pipes or some seals of the pump?) at anytime and I think lifetime of them cannot be so clearly calculated. And SBC will go to the emergency mode with reduced braking force if something fails.

BTW, here is very common place of W211 where pipe will rust (I just put some rust prevention stuff there when I changed winter tyres):

I was told MB would change these for free on pre face lift w211 can someone clarify this please?

Ii is replaced free of charge at mb dealership

Great cheered me up lol. Just about ti have lower ball joint done on front of car....

If it's the first time the message has been displayed MB will reprogram the unit to extend the count limit (rather than reset it?). If it's already been extended once, then it's a new (or more likely recon) unit.

Spose it's just the same as re-setting the general service indicator without actually carrying out the service.

You can/could get away with it once but twice would be pushing it.

If there has been a re-set outside the main dealer net work is there a permanent record that is accessible by subsequent owners of the vehicle so that there is absolutely no doubt about the current state of the unit. ie the unit has not previously been re-set, once (date), a second time (date), a third time.......?

I am sure you understand the question and the possible implications.

I had my counter reset when it went in for the SBC earth strap recall.

The next time it went it was 'visit workshop' for free pump: but that was before Merc discovered how much it was costing them.

I had a new pump fitted free of charge roughly 18mths ago due to it being noisy, 2mths ago i had another one fitted free due to a message ''BRAKE SERVICE VISIT WORKSHOP & TAKE VASELINE!

Mine was replaced 6 weeks ago FREE

do you have full MBSH?

what mileage at time of replacement?
