I just increased the budget to see what was the otherside of £2000   (you're worse than my daughter) and found this. We will try to get to see that one.

Couldn't find any 2002 models within a 40 mile range of our address though.

Regards
John

Will she be ok with the Saloon model?

:o :o :o :o I'm glad you spotted my deliberate error :o I've not had any sleep and missed that. Blinking good spotting.

I think the saloon is a much better looking vehicle, but I showed my daughter a few last night and she did NOT like them.

Good spotting.

Back to the drawing board :o :o

Hrm, my brother bought his 2002 Focus for £2200. Looking around on autotrader, it looks like he got a great deal!

I'm not a fan myself, but have you tried eBay - seems to be the site of choice for many sellers rather than AT? Or even considered the local auction, given you seem pretty knowledgeable about cars and how common they are, there must be loads of Focii within your spec - indeed, you may even get a newer model at a bargain price? BTW RAC are offering HPIs at a fiver each or 3 for £12 :)

The local rag is worth keeping an eye on for cars at the cheaper end of the spectrum. People will stick an ad in them as they are generally inexpensive to advertise in.

It's also worth looking at the Exchange and Mart/Fish4 websites.. less popular than Autotrader but some bargains do pop up..

Cheers,

Gaz

Hi Gaz,
We are keeping a very close eye on the local paper, although I have not considered the Exchange & Mart as we are limited by range :o

We have been monitoring Ebay and thanks to my daughter I have figured out how to set the listings by distance.

Auction would be a nice option as I spoke to our Ford Main dealer and they staed all their cheap trade in's are put through the local auction house. Unfortunately as much as I would love to go down this route, it isd not a practicle options :o :o Good idea though.

Thanks also for the HPI tip and that is something we may well use.

I was just checking the Autotrader and found this

Not a Focus and my daughter is not convinced about the colour plus the price is sneaking up and blooming up, but I wonder what they would accept???

Isn't there an auction at Plymouth?

Just looked on one of our trade buying sites & nothing on there either!

Exeter always used to be the biggest local car auctions but for personal reasons this is a non starter :o :o .

pm en-route

Hi John,

Exchange and Mart's website is searchable in the same way as Autotrader's, although there are fewer used car ads on there.

I mentioned Fish4 as they have an affiliation with many local papers. Anyone placing a small ad for a car in our local rag gets a weeks advertisement on the Fish4 website thrown in. They also have a search by distance option.

I've had a look for Focuses (or whatever the plural is) in my location, and there is very little available with a £2K budget. Only 3 hatchbacks, all of which have been to the moon and back. I wouldn't bother rolling up to look at any of them..

Cheers,

Gaz

How about BuyYourCar? Never used them, but maybe someone else has any experience with it?
No locusts or Focus ;) but thanks any way. I'm tempted to get the angle grinder to the saloon that is being sold locally, 51,000 miles, but girls being girls. ;) ;)

John

Tell your Ford dealer you are looking for a Focus and to let you know asap if they take anything suitable as p/ex

Having seen a badly repaired Focus annihilated in a crash on a TV motoring programme, I would say an HPI is indispensable. I always do one before even going to see a car of interest - for the sake of a fiver, it's worth not travelling to see a dodgy dog (especially with the price of petrol  )

As well as the local rag, ot may also be worth checking out local newsagents who have ads in their windows :)

Sorry, I should have checked that first :o. In fact, I just realised how much smaller the offering is outside London and the big cities .

Give it another couple of weeks and you will be splashing out for a new car ;)
the benz looks like a better buy than most, is the sun roof stuck open or closed though:eek:

As stated in my earlier post, (167)the local Ford dealer shifts ALL the cheaper trade in's staright off to auction. They allegedly do not sell any cheap trade-in vehicles to the public.

Just read Honest John's assessment of second-hand A-class You can guess what advice I have given my daughter.

Has anybody mentioned the new fiat 500 yet?

Foci! I like that, Bit like Lexi being the plural of posh toyotas really!

I think we had a plural debate ages ago on another thread!

I think it would have stopped when somebody popped a Bristol, or two, out into the open!

John, the fact you can't get a Focus, is Gods way of telling you its rubbish and don't buy one! There are bigger things at work here, Take heed!

:D

i can think of 500 reasons why not to buy one;)

Or perhaps you should panda to her whims ;)
