Have recently purchased a 52 plate C270 Avantgarde. It's my first MB and am thoroughly enjoying the experience (until service time!!). Problem is, the previous owner appears to have been quite a smoker and I am not! Wouldnt have bought the car, but the price and spec was what I wanted.

Does anyone have any good ideas or solutions to rid the car of the smell? So far, I have valet'd the carpet & headlining with valet cleaner the nused several doses of Febrese. Cleaned the leather seats several times and generally given everything a good clean. Even with Magic Tree air fresheners there is that underlying' tabbers' smell!!!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!!!!

Thanks,
Tony

2002 C270 Avantgarde Auto, Blue Black Metallic, Anthracite Leather, 17" AMG alloys and 45mpg!!! Woo hoo.....!:bannana:

What you need is one of those fogger aerosols which you click open and leave in the car with all the windows shut.

It fills the car up with intense fragrance which should get rid of anything.

I get them from a car valet supplier in Romford.

Not off the top of my head but I'm passing by there tomorrow afternoon so I'll take a piccie.

Try bicarbonate of soda or vinegar in a saucer left in the car overnight.

Megiuars do an odour-neutralising spray to apply to the upholstery after it's been cleaned. It works well. Don't forget to do the headlining

Charcoal will definitely do the trick.

I had an Audi with this problem. I put several dishes of cat litter (unused) under the seats and left it there. It improved rapidly over days but took weeks to be completely eliminated. the problem is that the smoke pentrates deeply into everything.

I am overwhelmed with the response!!! Just want to thank all of you for your ideas - of which I shall be using a number of them I'm sure!!!
Will post back to let you know which was the most successful - if you're interested!!

What worked lol I have a similar problem but mine is that of under use, just smells mouldy and musty

Nah car is bone dry

The previous owner only ever did a few 1000 miles per year and seems to have loved eating in it! The amount of built up biscuit crumbs and crisp debris is unreal!

The car really could do with a good power wash inside to blow the crap out from all over but over time it will get better.

Just looking for something to get deep into the car and kill any bacteria lurking around that could be adding to the smell

Neutradol if you want a cheap solution….

An ozone generator if you want to get it sorted properly ;)

Try this.

CarPro Cleanair 120ml spray bottle - Clean Your Car

We bought a 1 year old Yaris which had the lingering smell of cigarette smoke.

I thoroughly washed the carpets, seats, headlining, and wiped down all the hard and soft plastics. While this made a significant improvement, a subtle odour remained.

Bought some SoPure CleanAir and applied. It worked! I did find that the CleanAir took a few days to do its job but after a week or so, there was no noticable smell at all.

Regards, Neil
