Standard SLK - Ratio of female to male owners?

Missing the word "modern" here - Healeys, TRs (6 down), MGA, MGB weren't, you needed muscles to drive them - although I suppose Midgets, TR7s and Spitfires did end up with a girly image.

Funnily enough I was commenting to somebody that to my eye the R170 had some of the proportions of the TR6 (large wheels relative to size, convertable, and lots of mechanical noise from the engine).

Can't figure out which bit of male insecurity labels small, quick cars as girly.

It's just that the cars look a lot better with a woman at the helm than a guy. It's not so much that some cars are girly as that the cars enhance the carly aspects of the ladies.

Consider the great JC's recommendation regarding an excellent Ferrari convertible -- it puts your bald patch on display, people can see your stomache, and the fact that you're playing Nights in White Sation is apparent to everybody.

Basically my wife looks better than me in any car. But that difference is massively increased in her favour when it comes to riding in anything where the roof may be retracted.

I think not ;) .

Ah but i speak from experience and the 55 will do 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds that was quicker than the old man's Coupe was able to make the sprint again speaking from experience, still the Masterati is a wonderful machine.

The bit that i think does look a little girly on the 171 is the non-AMG sport front bumper its a little too styled for me.

I thought you had a 32?

Even so the 55 & the Maser both have identical 0-1000m sprint times of just under 24s. Even if yours is modded - 'easy dealt with' is a bit of an exaggeration ;).

Me, Nooooo.

I've never owned a 170 but i have driven and worked on them and they are nice cars.

I should have had a play with the Maserati before i modded mine where i think they would have been closer to each other as you say, but with 500 horsepower it was over quite fast.

I don't want to go too OT but if i may ask what made you pick the manual over the flappy-paddle box not that there is anything wrong with the manual i am just curious?

I didn't like the Cambiocorsa gearbox - it also eats clutches and there are issues with the pump.

500bhp in an SLK55? Have you nicked the engine from the SL55 ;) :D ?

Now that's an excellent viewpoint!!  :D

Maybe you should start a new thread detailing your mods - R2D2 and others would be interested.

I might just do that mate, will see what pics i have floating about at the moment

we've lost track of the ratio count, so far ratio of male to female SLK owners is about 3:400000 right? hehe

I wonder how many people that say the SLK is a girl's car, also poo hoo automatic's or diesel powered cars.

Independent thought comes to mind.

Well I've got two diesel-engined autos ... still think non-AMG SLKs are girly! :D

And so does my wife ;)

I didn't think this sort of talk went on here. Whatever car you drive doesn't determine your sexuality and anyone who thinks it does could be considered, IMHO brain cell lacking / challenged.

Let me relate a story, which I reluctantly decided to bite my tongue for once, as I wanted to get my slk looked at.

In the gearbox garage on Saturday and girl delivering parts arrives, just before fat, balding loud bloke in voyager. Starts telling parts girl that he beat her to the garage and said she should tell her boss that she was beaten by a bloke with a real grand prix license and promptly retrieves said item from wallet again to show the other customers who couldn't help showing interest due to loudness of bloke.

Anyway, after 5 mins of name dropping (motorcycle racers and the odd touring car driver) he starts then to say he had XXXX car (I was getting very bored waiting for diagnostic check) and then says the sold it to a chap who was 'ac/dc' and puts on this effeminate voice. Then says that the chap invited him in to complete the purchase and he said he 'got the hell out of there sharpish'

Now forgive me for being on my soap box but what this guy was old, fat, loud and obnoxious so what in gods name made him think that any gay bloke would find him attractive!

Now for the record, I own an SLK, have had 3 alfas and a lotus Excel, so if anyone wants to consider me gay for owning those cars they are welcome to.

BTW for the record, I can speak with some authority on the subject as my boyfriend is gay.
