Standard SLK - Ratio of female to male owners?

Nothing wrong with the R170 SLK to be frank I personally think the new R171 looks more girly with its rounded rear end.

I drive the SLK32 AMG certainly never seen a girl drive one yet (not that I've seen many).

Just have to look at the US market they certainly appeal more the guys over there, and they probably don't even know what hairdressers really mean :D

I think its a man's car, Anything that can do 150mph is a man car.

And i would say that 90% of the slk I see are driven by men.

No pink in sight

The SLK200 can't do 150

My wife is from near Stuttgart and says in Germany the SLK is also seen as a bit of a girl's car ... with the exception of AMG versions.

A quote from this month's Evo - reviewing the R171 SLK55 AMG Black Series:

I know there's still a whiff of hairdresser about the SLK, but that's an image thrust upon it by its dynamically inept predecessor (R170).

Trundling down to the dump - or recycling centre as it's become - in a 4WD we were passed by a furiously driven SLK AMG. It looked a proper car. My bro who, was driving, said this would be his retirement present to himself. The AMG, I asked? No, a 320 or a 230K, he said. A few days later, I saw Quentin Willson's article in Classic Cars (Jan 2008) and everything became clear: a Future Classic, apparently, available from £5K up and hugely under-appreciated in the market. In fact, he liked it so much he bought one, he wrote. For his daughter.
My bro's first proper car was a frogeye Sprite and the SLK has finally broken the spell it held him under all these years. So here's to the SLK - not just a Barbie but also all a bit of a Kenny! :)

Personally I wouldn't give a t*ss what anybody thinks, if you like it enjoy it.

I think its generally accepted that a pug 205cc driven by a man is slightly odd, but an slk for me is perfectly fine.

here here-I second that

Interesting this thread should pop up again. I was only saying the same thing yesterday to Malcolm. I have had Edna now for four years. I've never had a car that long and I can't see me changing her through choice any time soon. Economics is part of that decision but the main thing is that she still looks bloody great and I don't see anything of that ilk that I would rather have.

Even put next to the R171 she holds her own in looks. The 170 has a stunning profile and she is just amazing to drive.

A future classic? I'd like to think so.

Well I have both R170 and R171, the only reason that they get the girly rep is that they are great cars to pose in like watch yourself in shop windows as you go past., not that I do it of course.

gary

Hmmn that and the fact they're girls cars ;).

No they're not!! Just because I'm a girl :p :p

Oh I do!. One of the few pleasures that I have left is to get stuck at a red light when I'm outside M&S's window :D .

I'm with Pammy on this though. Even though I have the 2004 onwards one the original 170 to me was always going to be the "Future Classic". I'm hoping though that mine will catch up some day :).

Coming back to the girlie badge? Most folks that I know tip their hats to the SLK and those that dont, generally own up to the fact that they would have one if only they could. Sure, bits of them are a tad curvy shall we say and some of the styling is a bit soft here and there on both versions but that all adds to the car itself. I tended to have a love / hate with mine along the way but I have mellowed of late and could not contemplate life without the one that I have now. A few months ago I was even contemplating a change to a 350 or dare I say it an AMG. I've changed my mind though and like Pammy, I'm hanging on because these cars are going to become much admired and sought after sooner or later no matter if you are an hairdresser or a ship yard welder.

To cap it all though, mines called Diana btw ;)

EDIT. Forgot to add, if this was a poll and for the sake of the thread, I'm a bloke but some of you knew that already.

Portzy.

Not sure what I would add by stating the obvious...but as it's for statistical purposes - it's a girly car mate...I just cringe when I see a guy driving an SLK...great looking car but it's almost as painful as watching a guy putting a skirt on ;-)

Yeah? Well some men can wear a skirt and wear it very well indeed  Want to go and ask the hoards of Scots that they look like girls in their kilts?

They are men who are content with who they are and have nothing to prove to anyone.

Most women find a man in a kilt incredibly sexy. And there are number of men who have worn a variation on the skirt incredibly well - and only men seem to find it unnerving - perhaps it's just too scary for them.
