Hi,

For some fun I've booked myself in for a car limits event day on Sunday 28th November at North Weald Airfield (Essex). It's like a track day, but a bit different, safer and cheaper at only £48/car.

It's basically an airfield with plastic cones to map out a circuit. Cars go out one by one on timed laps, so there's no risk of hitting other cars.
It should be a fun day with some gentle heckling from the other attendees.

Below's a video of a previous event. It's open to none Lotus cars, but it's just popular with them for obvious reasons.

At the bottom of this post is the web page of where you can book.

Fancy coming along too?

Date: Sunday 28th November
Location: North Weald Airfield (Essex)
Time: 9am to 4pm

I've done Sprints at North Weald. You can lay out quite a decent track there. There's a fast run down to a very small roundabout where, on a sprint, you do a 180 and come back. Some of the joins between sections are bumpy but it's quite a decent surface and can be quite fast

The normal layout suits agile, torquey cars with lots of traction more than big powerful cars

Lots of fun!

It should be a fun day and an ideal time, especially for all those Cosworth/Kompressor/V8/AMG owners, to stretch their car's legs.

Have done a few Car Limits days with Andy Walsh there and they are great fun. Be prepared to spin (and learn) and burn some rubber!

£48 is a good price for the day but it looks a bit tight and twisty for my heavy lump.

Have fun :)

I'm sure you'd be very welcome. You might want to call in advance to check whether you need to register to enter the site. If you need to be with a paid driver, you can join me, Will Morgan.

It should be a fun day :) Bring along a warm coat, the forecast is -3C (-7 wind chill)

it is officially a no spectator day. If I was to get there at 9am and take part in the driver briefing then they would work around it. seems I wont be out on Sunday now :(

I'm not sure how it works really as it's my first time. Best call them to be sure.

I and the car survived :) It was a really good day out, well organised and all set in a friendly environment. I can highly recommend this to any member. As you can see from some of the photos, all type of cars turned up and a Mercedes would not be out of place.

I had a passenger ride in the 911 (997) Carrera 2. It's a fantastic car, truly wonderful. I wondered if the 911 was 'all that' and whether you needed the turbo to be a true performer. I was so wrong. The car's acceleration pinned my head to the seat all the way to 100mph then the brakes, without ABS coming on threw me forward. It's on a whole new level compared to my humble Elise. I want. I want.

My performance was woeful. From the timing sheet on the bottom photo (I'm the 3rd car down 'R' ED S2 I was one of the slowest cars and at times slower than the MX5. Oh the shame. The high speed bend was as the name suggests a single bend where the aim was to go around as fast as possible without spinning. How the other Elise did 99.99mph and I only did 60mph I'll never know. Later in the morning was short circuit which I was more comfortable doing. Finally in the later afternoon was a sprint circuit that sorted the men from the boys. The Escort was the joker of the the day. Bought on Ebay for £300 then tuned it was a real performance car, plus a skilled driver made it not much slower than the GT3RS! But to humble us all the organiser 'Walshy' took someone Elise out and did 1.06min faster than everyone despite being in a 135bhp Elise. There's no substitute for knowing what you're doing.

In the mean time, some new rear tyres for the Elise are needed.
