Folks,

I propose we have a forum day touring the Lake district in the Spring or very late summer before the pesky camper vans fill it up.

I'd propose the following, meet in Pooley Bridge, head down Ullswater and over the Kirkstone Pass to Ambleside. From here, the tackling of the Hardknott and Wyrnose passes are in order, and following this a loop back to Grasmere...

Its worth stopping and taking in views at the Honister slate mine.

What do you think,

I have an reasonable working knowledge of the area. Its a day trip for most. Now, I've done all these routes and can navigate most of this in my head but I would like someone else to look over the route and enhance it....

Someone mentioned it as a GTG a while ago.

I'd wager there are more roads/sites to put on that route. Certainly wastwater needs incorporated, its lovely but I can't map it in very well. Anyone fancy a pop.

I'd not rule it out, but I heard its quite expensive

Sounds good.

pls avoid 17-22 may as im going to the 'Ring 24hr :)

I was thinking more March time or back end of September.

Its a busy place at the best of times without the school holiday/bus tour/camper van drones...

Ill be there. Ive done the Motor Museum with some guys off the forum. Ill have a brew whilst the rest go round it.

There's some serious eating to be done. Reasonable chinese in Keswick, and a monster pub which does a proper steak and ale pie...

Drool drool...

date dependent, I'm in.

not been to Lakes in years.

bear in mind Easter is Friday 29 and Monday 1 April for many people.

Wastwater is quite remote. A long way round with no circular route available.

Thats my feeling Brian, remote with a pub at the end (damned good food though).

We've got all day, this is a fairly short route. Remember we will be doing this in Spring or Autumn where light will fail us sooner, but still, theres no need for a 9am start or late finish with this route, so its a relaxed day out just now.

Ian, I'd appreciate it if you would look at the routes and add in suggestions/roads as need be. You have a far greater knowledge of the area than me and as such your input is very much wanted.

I'll confirm dates ASAP by end next week. Accomodation, the Robinsons Inn at Pooley Bridge is my choice if you need it.

Count me in, sounds like a good day out.

March would be good if the weather is ok.

We stayed at the Patterdale Hotel last year. Not too expensive but probably wouldn't suit you Steve as the food left something to be desired. Also know where the last photo was taken from, took the same shot last year.

I pat the Motor museum just last Sunday though Ive never actually been in it.
I am certainly interested in this GTG for sometime in March...
We need stuff this spring as there seems very little at the moment...
People on "The other side" are allready getting giddy about the next meetup at The Jamaica Inn.. Thats usually one of the last GTG's of the year and its not 2 minutes since we were there !

Steve, if you want a challenge that you would fail then try a Cow Pie at The George in Keswick..
Dinner Menu at The George Hotel in Keswick

I only just managed a half pie.. I was told that the full one contains 1 kilo of meat !!!!! Apparently only one person is acknowleged to have eaten the monster. The usual serving is half a pie!
I suggest you try this at some point in the future as Keswick is ALWAYS very busy and the parking can be a challenge..
I'm not suggesting it for this particular GTG as it would take up too much time from a day of limited day light.
