The EV fact thread

Are EV's being sold with no means of charging at all, not even a granny cable ?

That can't be right.
He said HIS EV comes with a fast charging cable.

Some companies actively discourage slow charging from a 3 pin plug

Until a year or so ago, ev were sold with both granny and type 2 or similar. The vast majority are now delivered with just ccs charger cable. This is money saving but the manufacturers claim granny chargers are not now in demand/needed….

That's wrong, if you don't do many miles or barely venture out of town, a granny charger is really all you need.

Still in Norway.... chargers everywhere:
Some will argue that a wall box is just modernising your house, so you should write off the cost over 20+ years…

Others will argue that a granny cable is always useful when you’re away from home, visiting relatives, rentals or whatever

Others will argue that they just “have to have” the fastest charging speed.

Others will say if you can charge two or three times a week at work, you won’t have to top up your EV at night… at all.

With my deep pockets and short arms, I’d be trying to get your EV charged at work and use then just top up at the local supermarket if you can’t.

There’s no urgency, really.

My local Aldi has free charging..... :)

I think the point is that sone of those who don't do many miles annually, wouldn't mind the higher cost of electricity from public chargers, because the actual annual amount won't be much anyway.

Junior D managed a whopping 7.3 miles/kWh in the Foat 500e yesterday! That far exceeds the quoted range, albeit in Summer at conducive speeds. In winter it will be less that quoted range. The quote range is probably mid way between the two realistic extremes on range.

That's just about a penny a mile with a half decent EV tariff .......compared to my 45 mpg derv car at about 15!

All of our vehicles came with a fast charger cable and a granny cable, Including the ones that have just arrived in the last week or so, i have to say that in the 10 years i have been running EV's the granny cable has never been opened!
The warm weather has certainly increased the range, the official figures quote 187 mile range, which in the cold weather is quite optimistic, however i had 220 the other day on the clock - I would state that this is a bit of a fib as the extra 20 miles did disappear within around 5 miles .....

Am concerned 🙁 I don’t have an EV .
However I am just about to complete the purchase of the house which has a EV charger A Zappy I think . Does this mean I need to buy an EV 😂

I thing that its a legal requirement for all new build house to have one too.

My new house is a 1780 cottage with a few modern add ones 😂

Too many people don't think that way.

True. This is one reason why I use premium fuel in my ICE car - because the actual annual difference in pounds is too small to be worth pondering if it's worth it.....

Seen this numerous times on different forum's. So what! We know EVs can catch fire, as we also know ICE vehicle's catch fire, with disastrous results, as in Liverpool and Luton to name but Two. But for some reason with EVs it's a big deal, well to some people anyway. 🙄:dk::doh:
