The EV fact thread

Anyone notice that the engine supposedly removed from that 300SL was a modern engine and nothing like the original.

OK it's a replica but this is also happening to real classics even though there is not much of an issue with emissions from a treasured and highly valued classic car. Some of them hardly turn a wheel and those that do will have very low annual miles and hence minimal emissions. Removing the original IC engine is a travesty which destroys the essence of the car and the only excuse will be when the fuel is no longer available, which is not yet or for the foreseeable future. I doubt they are even nice to drive, the silence of EV motive power only highlights wind and road noise which is given special attention in modern EV's but older cars will inevitably suffer when the engine noise is removed.

"Organise your life to avoid paying taxes on income and wealth?"

Or "charge when you can (or when you park), not when you have to?"
I was thinking, "He who has the gold, rules" ie: financial incentives.

Anecdote (or Anecdata?) from the front line.

I'm cautiously looking for a particular EV. Low mileage / high spec.

So, on Monday I drove down to see a main dealer EV, which had come in the previous week and was now ready to be viewed.

Only to receive a call, while driving, saying "sorry, this one's gone under reserve, so we can't sell it to you."

Then on Tuesday, I called another main dealer about a similar EV, which had also only just physically come in the day before, and arranged a viewing.

Only to receive a call, that afternoon, to say "sorry, this one's been sold to a bloke who has just walked in off the street."

And all this is before the Chancellor increases the 53p / litre fuel duty in October, after that 13 year freeze.

It's almost as if loads of EV's were sold to their first users in the 2020-21 period.

Funny that... the second-hand car market is flooded by 3 years old EVs. And, the typical business lease on cars is 3 years. Naaah... probably it's just a coincidence :D

Another chuckle from a Bavarian EV manufacturer this week

"One tactic we in the industry can use to hit our 2024 EV targets is to push EV's into the hands of low mileage users, like the spouse or student doing a couple of thousand miles a year."

Another great example of a bureaucracy failing to think through the market reaction to the controls it has imposed.

Took this photo this morning in Hammerfest, which, we are told, is the most northern city in the world (and at the same latitude as the most northern tip of Siberia). Population: 11,338. And they have fast chargers everywhere...

To be fair, there's a mega-site that processes liquefied natural gas nearby, so probably this has something to do with it (lots of businesses moved into the town).

Having watched Tom Cruise ride his Harley Davidson Del Marr out of the Olympics yesterday and on to a plane to go to Los Angeles…..

does anyone else fancy his silent, emission-free EV ?

I'll certainly be taking this up with are tour guide!
Start by asking whether they call Longyearbayan, a town of 2,400 people a “city”

(I haven’t watched three endless ruddy series of “The Killing” for nothing, you know. Takk !! )

Population is not what defines a city.....St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales is a city....less that 2000 people.
