The EV fact thread

The French taxation situation is interesting.

I think it's an excellent idea as something had to be done about encouraging people away from the ever increasing weight of monster SUV's.
The idea that a 2.5 -3.0 tonne EV is a zero emissions vehicle is just nonsense. Compared to a smaller EV there were more emissions to build it and there will be more emissions to run it for a long time to come.

Adopting the French system in the UK would get my vote

Yes, whoever would buy a 2.5 tonne SUV, absolutely outrageous.
On a more EV friendly note, I have just had a next day Amazon delivery in a BMW i3.😁
I guess their local delivery drivers are self-employed, but someone has worked out that under the current regulations a 1.3 tonne, spacious EV can be cost effective to run....about £12 fuel cost for a whole week of delivering:dk:

I think that the key issue with hybrids is the unnecessary complexity of having two propulsion systems. But hybrids do make sense as a stop-gap measure until such time that everyone can charge their EVs either near their home or along the route, etc. In this respect, hybrids should replace pure-ICE cars for those who do not have suitable charging solutions yet. But long-term, there's no logic in having a hybrid once charging is amply available.
Isn’t buying a hybrid a bit like those old fashioned VHS and DVD player combos.

For those who like to sit on the fence…🤣😅
