The EV fact thread

Is that the readout on the dashboard or how far you have actually travelled from one charger to the next. If it's the latter then that's plenty imho.

The dash says I could do more on the max range display, the expected range display is reasonably accurate.

Thanks for the heads up!
I have done quite a lot of research and have found non-EV tyres with same load, size & speed rating for around half the EV tyres price - for the Tesla.
We only get rain for 3 or 4 days per year here and the roads are very smooth - so I don’t think we would see the differences that you might get in the UK.
The newer Teslas (ours is a 2023 model) have slightly softer suspension - the early Model 3s would be harsh over bumps.

That doesn't seem to be the case in the UK - but maybe what you are trying to say is that if not fitting EV tyres, then you have more makes and models to chose from and you can opt for a different/cheaper tyre? I.e from what I checked, a Michelin Sport Pilot for my EV cost about the same whether you opt for the 'EV' variant or just a standard one, but I am sure I can find cheaper tyres than Michelin Sport Pilot.

Yes there is.....

I’m with Dryce - this is marketing only, not substance. For example, a quote from the Kwikfit page:

“A normal car battery typically weighs in at around 18kg, while the average electric car battery is around 454kg - a whole 25 times heavier!“. Just reeks of factual integrity ;)

Here are a couple of examples of how people carry-on in their daily lives, outside of the academia world:

Nick Ferrari on LBC confronted this pro-Israeli lady with an allegation that Israeli soldiers open fire on a church in Gaza. Her response? "There are no churches in Gaza". The lady made-up a 'fact', on the spot, because it suited her argument. No research needed...

Ben Shaprio engages with a student in a public debate in Cambridge University, and suggests that during WW2 more German died than Brits, to which the pro-Palestinian student replies: "Britain was not bombing civilians". Again, the student knows nothing abut WW2, but this does not stop her from making-up, on the spot, a 'fact' to support her argument and try and promote her ideology.

This is how things have always been... no wonder we've made slow progress throughout history. Most of the time, 'science' was like this:

Who was surprised that people still do not believe in man-made climate change...?

Ahem ..... being picky .....

One of your examples appeared involve the academic world - so presumably wasn't outside it.

Fair point. However, she was a student - and with her attitude to facts, she's unlikely to do well if she ever chooses to pursue an academic career.

The Mercedes EQC propulsion battery is approx. 650 Kg (not including the auxiliary 12V battery), and an ICE 12V battery is between 14-22Kg so Kwikfit aren't far from being spot on. 👍🏼

Toasty! 🔥

Metro News this morning:
'An electric bus has caught fire in south London leading to significant disruption during rush hour.
The Met Police has declared a critical incident after it happened at 7am this morning in Wimbledon Hill, London .'

Full Fact website says it's not an EV . Despite every other newsfeed saying that it is 🤷‍♂️

Here we go again......

Apart from deducting the weight of the engine, gearbox, drivetrain…

My Tesla’s unladen weight is 1850kg.

And Google bus fires....there are dozens of them....99 percent derv....so it proves nothing even if it was EV......ICE engine fires are way more common that EV....even pro rata.

People just like Ben Shapiro who has publicly questioned what percentage of global warming is attributable to human activity.

The "pro Israeli woman" is a politician, current deputy mayor of Jerusalem and current Israeli special envoy for innovation - Fleur Hassan-Nahoum. A left winger apparently.
