The EV fact thread

You always get a few idiots who are apparently qualified to know better. Just look at the anti vax COVID lot , the anti MMR vaccine folks, intelligent people who join the flat earth society .............and bexit supporting politicians!!
And how would you summarise the attitude of those who resort to the use of pejoratives as their primary 'argument'?

Let me google "pejoratives".....and Ill let you know!!!:)

Not really interested, I bet somewhere in the world right now, there are a few ICE cars on Fire, but again not really interested. 🙄
Then perhaps you should be if only for the environmental issues burning EVs cause, not to mention tax payers money.

.....especially as there are so many more of them........ICE fires that is.

And burning ICE cars don't cause environmental issues or a cost to the tax payer?
Of corse they do, you'd have to be an utter buffoon to think otherwise, but EV fires are so much more toxic and thus far worse for the environment. You really should watch the video to the end.

Whilst looking to see if EV fires real are worse for the environment....which I could not find....I stumbled across this....obviously the anti EV lot will think its all lies an conspiracy......but read it and decide yourself.

No matter how rare they are we all know that Li Ion battery fires are much more difficult to deal with when they do occur, with risk of spontaneous re-ignition etc. And obviously the bigger the battery the more potentially serious it is. Multiple fire engines attending, safety cordons, road closures etc. all make it much more news-worthy than an ICE bus fire being put out in 5 mins and towed away.

Just looking at the first item. It makes no account of all the supporting infrastructure necessary for EVs. I am referring to everything that was not there before and is now - or will be. The requirement for massive batteries to buffer high speed recharging is totally ignored - yet high speed recharging is cited as being the saviour of EVs re range anxiety. The pro EV arguments just aren't rigorous enough - omitting inconvenient truths as they do.

Much is made - rightly or wrongly - about EVs' propensity to spontaneously combust. How often it occurs is less the issue than the sheer difficulty of containing and extinguishing the fire. This would be a good opportunity to consider the consequences of huge buffer batteries in a built up area suffering this consequence. Batteries as general storage can be sited in areas of relative low population density but that obviously isn't true for high speed recharging in cities.

As your local reporter on the ground, all I’ve been able to establish is that, if it was a 200 Bus to Raynes Park, it would have been a BEV

The actuaries can work out if this is an above average probability, compared to ICE.

(Looks like it to me, but then I’m a sceptic about first generation EV’s)

Definitely a 200 bus, so a £450k pure Electric. (50% more expensive than hybrids, not that money matters when ULEZ is generating £200 million a year)

The fire could be smelt from well over a mile away.

Apparently Sad IQ reckons electric buses “make a real difference cleaning up the air in busy parts of Central London and are another step along the way to making all London’s buses zero emission by 2037”.

LFB confirmed early on that it was a BEV.

The latest BBC report says "Road closures and cordons are in place and are expected to be for some time". So taking a while to deal with considering it kicked off at 07:20. Maybe they're trying to find an immersion tank big enough to take a double-decker bus :D

Took something like 2 1/2 hours to clear - there was traffic coming up the Hill around 10am - but that may have been single carriageway flow.

They made a great fuss about moving people out of the area at commute time because of the fumes.

More importantly that it didn't happen while the Alexandra Pub was open, probably the finest proper pub in SW London.

Hertz to sell 20,000 EV's "due to strong demand for gas vehicles"

Need to take this with a slight pinch of salt because they're doing this after buying a lot of Tesla 3's a year ago, and after recently buying more EV's from other brands, mainly Kia and Polestar.

My suspicion is that they're "more than distressed" with both repair costs/ logistics AND depreciation after the price dumps these last twelve months.

That said, it was astonishing that last summer a Tesla 3 or Y could be be rented, and fuelled, for less than the cost of a VW Jetta. A strong sign that they weren't in enough demand to justify Tesla's much higher original purchase price.

The BBC report is currently timed at '2 hours ago', but you're probably in a better position to know :D That says:

Road closures and cordons are in place and are expected to be for some time.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "We thank the local community for their patience and co-operation as emergency services work at the scene."
People have been advised to avoid the area.

Bunch of Woke Lefties trying to scare the world

Traffic was definitely coming up the hill at 10am, and Mr Google says it's normal now, just after "Schools out."

Bring back Simon Mayo !
