thieving scum aka London Borough of Barnet

Touch wood, yes.

I had a similar case in Camden where, as I returned to the car the warden was writing out the ticket. I got in and drove off before he had a chance to pin the ticket on me, therefore no offence under the Road Traffic Act. Somehow I just knew I would get a Notice to Owner ('you haven't paid your ticket within 14 days therefore you now have to pay the full charge'). Of course I hadn't paid, because I never got a ticket!

I wrote to appeal and have heard nothing for 2 months and have assumed they have cancelled it.

Touch wood!

I missed this thread back in Nov.

Life stinks sometimes does it not.

I had a experience 3 years ago at Christmas, I had took my children shopping for mothers presents and had parked and displayed. While shopping one of my children had a fit and we went to hospital.

Anyway I got a ticket and I appealed it (not the same day). I got a reply saying that this was not the concern of the council and I could/should have made arrangements and had to pay.

you missed one of my posts!!!! you are very fortunate to have had a 2nd chance ;)

This will make you feel better - a tradesman had parked outside my office today and returned to find a w*nk*r giving him a ticket. The driver was very very unpleasant to the warden.
The more unreasonable these wardens (and local authorities) get, the more likely it is that people will resort to verbal (and physical) abuse to make them realise that their actions DO have consequences.

We had a situation with my mum in Lambeth. She had paid and displayed her ticket in the morning. Then she popped out for lunch and came back, parked in a different bay (further down the road) and bought another ticket.

Later that afternoon, she noticed a warden writing out a ticket (the car was in sight of her work). She queried this with the warden, who replied that he was issuing a ticket for feeding the meter. She argued her case (i.e. the car was in a completely different bay!) but the warden issued the ticket anyway (my mum is very non-confrontational).

I appealed the ticket on my mum's behalf. The council replied that the warden had noted down the position of the valve caps on her tyres. He asserted that they hadn't moved between the morning and the afternoon and therefore my mum must have fed the meter.

I appealed again, questioning the veracity of the warden's records and stating that he had failed to note that she had parked outside a different building! The council refused the notice of appeal and stated that the PCN remained valid. If we did not pay, then we would be obliged to go to a tribunal.

Unfortunately, my mum capitulated and paid the ticket without telling me. As I said, she hates conflicts. It really wound me up that a warden would lie and that the council would get money using intimidation tactics.

It makes it very difficult for those wardens out there who are genuinely trying to do a good job.

we've had similar in Hastings with wardens writing tickets out from across the road whilst you go and buy a ticket then running to your car to ticket it before you get back - I've appealed 6 so far and only lost one but if you park in certain streets it's worth having a digital camera with you to prove your case :)

Although the town is pedestrianised vehicles are allowed in to load and unload before 10am so another of their favourite tricks is to write tickets out for parked vans and cars just before the 10 am deadline then at exactly 10 am 4 or 5 wardens will run up the streetand stick them on the windscreens - I got ticketed like this whilst I was driving off the precinct !!

As for telling lies - it goes with the job these days, most of these private companies are given targets and have to achieve them in order to keep the contracts and make money

shouldn't be driving in london anyway, should be using the excellent public transport system...

Whilst I agree that it is a reasonable public transport system, it is not always practical to use it, especially with a two year old and all their paraphenalia.

I think Sasha was taking the mick (if he wasn't he is deranged)

For more information on London transport, visit chavscum.co.uk Applies to some passengers, and a few staff as well.

Can any private company raise its prices 50% overnight? That's what happened with a Zone 1 ticket in Jan 1st! Now £3, and the world's most expensive metro system. Vote Bliar / Red Ken!

Jinxed myself F**** !!!!!!

got a letter from them yesterday saying I had to pay within 14 days of the date of the letter or the fine would go from £40 to £80.
Letter was dated 12 Jan (and post marked 28th) - thieving scum!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my response letter:

Your recent letter dated 12 January reached me on 28 January with a post mark of that date. As a result, the 14 days that you gave me to pay at the “discounted” rate had expired before I received the letter.

Clearly I will never know whether the letter was really written and sent by you on the 12th, or whether this was just another attempt to extract more money from me. Incompetence, or sharp practice?

Please ensure that you make a note on your file that the 14 days should run from 28 January.

I wrote and posted this letter on 31 January. Please acknowledge its receipt by return.

Yours sincerely
