Thoughts on this car (W211 E55 AMG)?

I live in the village next to hook and own property in hook and for the life of me i can't work out where this dealer is!! Would be interested to find out.

Do you own a lot of property? ;)

I went to see the E55 in Hook today...

its been driven/bought by the owner of a Renault Scenic car sales outlet, he's had many AMG's in the past and a genuine enough guy...

This is the type of car i'd buy as the history is impeccable, there is a folder full of every receipt, tax disc, MOT and a tracker is fitted but not active, the previous owner simply cherished this car.

Everything works, it runs great, I checked the entire bodywork and the only mark i could find is on the bonnet from a stone chip.
The tyres are all Continentals with around 5mm all round, Brakes look all at 60% left, no scoring on the discs at every corner
I checked all the alloys and the rear passenger had a 2" very slight curb mark otherwise all others are fine with no marks at all... It doesnt have Phone prep so the Parrot works a treat...
Under the bonnet, it looks all dry and no odd sounds, its just had a service at Mercedes and I saw the receipt, all good... no expense spared...
The black leather is all good no visible marks and the drivers seat is in very good condition, not your usual worn bolsters etc.. carpet does not look worn and no scratches or marks to note
if your name is James, (Jimmy) he is impressed with the sort of questions you're asking as he said "James" is obviosly an enthusiast..

I went as a potential cash buyer, well thats what i told him, he will only move a few hundred quid or so as he's priced it well...

If it was me buying it, i'd put a deposit on it across the phone and get over to see it/drive it... you will not be dissapointed.....

Cheers Greg

Many many thanks for this :thumb::rock:

The owner did reply to a few emails and seems genuine enough, my only concern is the price given that it is over budget and as only just on market he wont be too flexible it seems.

Am making my way down that way on weekend though and combining some other viewings based on the report above.

He did email me today and say someone came to look at it and was returning tomorrow to drive it, not sure if that was you or someone else  given he mentioned my name did you tell him why you were visiting it?

Thanks again, have also pm'd you.

I think all you can really do is set the absolute maximum you are willing to pay and offer that.

If it is turned down, what is the best he can do...

I paid over book for mine, but I wanted a mint example with good history and a good experience. I got £500 off and they did the front brakes, pads and replaced a broken wing mirror indicator lense. I would have gone further but to be honest, as you can see when you do a search, they're not exactly common!

You could quite easily spend close to that price of the 54 one and get a munter which will ruin the experience - something that cannot be easily undone.

You are better off stretching yourself for a better example IMO.

This will also help you when you come to sell it if you keep up the vast history it has.

Yep that was me that saw it today and yes i said i'd be back to drive it.... so dont sweat!! I made out i was a punter interested and not seeing on behalf of you...

it was a pleasure to help out... I had a very rare day of work that i simply wanted to do a boys day, so looking at cars is right up my street!!!! :-)

i agree with the comments above, pay that little bit more and it may well save you over that in the long run!

I ended up paying more for mine too after 9 mnths of looking for one, had the choice of two but went for the one i have because of the options and it was with warranty from main dealer

Whilst I dont mind increasing budget (slightly) for right car I am slightly wary that it isnt full of options and mileage is high. That 100k barrier I find is psychological and will impact future sales im sure.

Definately will go see it and see what happens though ;)

Having a third party not emotionally involved is great! It means you get that different view of a car.

In this case by someone who knows exactly what they are looking at too!!

I'd sell you mine for £12,500 (No offers mind!).

2004, 80,080 Miles. Full leather, electric seats, keyless go, comand, CD 6-stacker, electric everything.

Full Service History with MB, except the last one, which was with noted Kent MB specialist Wright-tech. 4 new pads and discs last month, full service, costing £1500 (have the bill) and 2 brand new rear tyres.

Well looked after, no rust anywhere......[what am I doing? I LOVE MY CAR!!]

Thanks for offer but too expensive for me sorry.

I just had almost exactly the same size bill - Andy did my G service and front pads, rear pads and discs and a ball joint.

I can't imagine how much the same service would be at MB.

Mine was juddering under braking, so I assumed warped front discs, and was slightly sloppy on bends but so subtle, I'd not noticed until driving it again after the work was done - it drives like a new car...

Whilst I'm not selling mine, and it has too few options for your requirements anyway, I'd also want £12,000 for mine - and it is a mint 54 with 60k miles and runs beautifully.

I may be and hope I am wrong for your sake, but I think you might struggle to get a good later example for £10k.

I quite like that green 02 plate one (I must be getting old liking green cars) but it's too much money IMO.

I got Pagid (MB OEM supplier) front discs (they are heavy!), front pads (in total 8!), and rear pads from ECP, plus rear discs from MB, all for £259. Fitting was £90, total cost £349!

What people want and get in this climate though is different. Seen a few good examples as described go for just over 10k so im still hoping. Quite a few not selling due to asking prices.

But im not stupid, with my budget there needs to be compromises but at the end of the day the prices will continue to fall so at moment im prepared to be patient.

At moment a 80k-90k 54 plate should be gettable for around 10k which is my aim. Which is the green 02 plate one?
