Kind of off topic but I had the exact reverse in MB Tamworth. Some years ago, 2002 ish I think I was in the market for an ML. MB Tamworth had several nice ones on the front so in I went. Salesman said, and I quote "Sorry, we're off to watch the Villa now, you'll have to come back tomorrow"
So this to$$er would rather watch a footie game than sell me a 35 grand car.
My response was to purchase a similar (better spec) ML500 from MB Direct in Erdington, Birmingham. Vowed never to return to MB Tamworth as long as I was still drawing breath.
Anyway, last year I had an issue with my E class, called out mobilolife and they took the car to MB Tamworth for repair. Needed a new exhaust section due to internal collapse. Everything was done exactly as it should be. Helpful, polite, problem fixed, car valeted. Spot on.
My point?
Car salesmen don't have to have ANY qualifications. Technicians do have to be trained and qualified. So, I have formed the opinion that all car salesmen are simply market traders in suits and cheap aftershave.
If the salesman is nice to you, you need to understand he is only being nice to your wallet.
If the service guy seems a bit terse it's probably because theres an idiot in a suit (or a dragon in a skirt) booking in more work than he can handle, all in the name of a quick sale, or profit if you prefer.
If you follow my example, I am on 1st name terms with the senior workshop mechanic where I get my car serviced. And yes, I would cheerfully have a pint with him. The salesman however, I would not pee on if he caught fire. Nuff said.
