Traffic Cops!

Was it definitely a police officer driving?

Many, many civilians end up driving marked police cars and despite it being a requirement that the vehicle is shown to be 'not in service', many a civilian ego or 'think it's a laugh merchant' has been advised about playing at being a police driver in to what all intents and purposes appears to be a police vehicle in service.

The HGV was about fifty yards ahead in lane one- how far back was the last vehicle you passed in lane one? I only ask because with the closing speed between you and the police car being about 10mph, he/she will have been in a position to observe you for some time.

I know of a garage hand sacked for this

It happens all the time ,they need to be behind you a standing mile before they can clock you ,last time I got pulled because I undertaken a car "audi" that was in the left Lane with no traffic whatsoever on the other lanes and having flashed him several times I decided to undertake,I looked at mirrors and spotted a bmw x5 doing the same I was doing around 85mph which I quickly droped to 75mph he followed me for a while and decided to pull me ,and he said you was driving like an ar$hole ,you was tailgating and undertaken a car and also you're doing 100mph+ I denied the speeding and tailgating as I flashed the other driver several times also said to the pig"policeman " that he have undertaken too and I had it on camera,he quickly told me to stick to the speed limit and disapeared!lol

So you undertook on the hard shoulder?

I bet that policeman won't pull any more nutters over in a hurry.

Suspect you may have failed the "attitude test" there :dk: and I suspect his disappearance was more to do with the fact he had something more urgent to attend to.

They were the Sweeney. And they hadn't had any dinner.

Must be something to do with driving a BM that does it, you cant escape the force(no pun intended)

last week I was also doing 70ish up the M11 and an x5 did almost the same thing. Swapping from lane to lane with no indicators and sitting in the 3rd lane when lane 2 was empty.

I had hoped that it was caught on my cam but turned out the 12v to 5v regulator had died so missed it all.

Another x5 event yesterday, waiting to cross the lights(as a pedestrian) and 5 cycles speeded past the lights on RED, passing an x5 and not an fv@k was given.

That's a good point as when I was involved in training I was not allowed to drive the marked cars, could only be present and instruct from the passenger seat. The ones I have seen driven by civilians usually technicians display "not in service" or " car under test" on the rear matrix sign

Don't know if its confined to the North West but recently I have witnessed some pretty terrifying driving by Police cars (and ambulances) in highly built up busy urban areas. Yes may be responding to emergencies but not far off creating emergencies of their own. I wonder whether time targets for attendance at a scene have in fact been reduced by some Government department . Don't care how well trained these drivers are episodes seen recently make me wonder whether these target setters realise that lives are being put at risk- both the driver's and the public's.

There's a awful lot of pressure to hit time targets, but 'arrive alive' has to be your first priority.

The idea is to get to the emergency as fast as possibly, without compromising the safety of yourself, or others in doing so.

Not sure why he'd quickly disappear when told he's on camera, as he's perfectly legit to follow you and undercut if necessary to keep up if this for a policing purpose :dk:

Edit - And also, as for needing to be behind you for a mile, that's untrue. Not even sure it's good practise for some counties, but there's definitely no legal reason behind it. (Just in case you spot a pig "policeman" and only speed for less than a mile)

In order for them to fine you they need to average the standing mile and the then fine ,I been in that situation once...

Nope, that's incorrect

No m2 has got 4 lanes I undertaken in the 3rd lane after been behind the Audi driver for a while and driving a loaded van I tend to keep enough distance between vehicles, and as for the policeman he shouldn't call me ar$hole that's probably why his went away since I told him we was on camera...

If the following police car is using VASCAR, then they need two points of refference to start and stop the average check, but usually a bridge or gantry is used. There's absolutely nothing that states a set distance of a mile is required.

And also, average speed checks are only one way of obtaining a speed :thumb:

The only attitude was from the policeman because I told him politely I had footage recorded and never called him ar $hole...

M2 have no cameras...

No, its the police car that has the cameras
