Hello guys,

As forecasted, I just noticed on the web (without any advise from Becker) that finally Becker launched a new SW update (now 2.5)

https://www.beckermappilot.com/shop/login/;jsessionid=42BD5040E8DED2540CC7242338AA086B?wicket:bookmarkablePage=:com.zeitwerk.joey.wicket.shop.DetailPage&lang=en&p=swupdate-eu-46&v=3

I have no option to perform the update so I really don't know what improves (I hope that the danger spot warning will be improved!!). On the webit is stated the following :

Numerous features such as the travel guide from Merian and Tunnel Sight Pro can be used, and you will find improvements in the user interface. Thanks to the new, advanced software 2.5, you have considerably more options than previously. For example, route sections can be blocked directly on the map and alternative routes are calculated automatically.

At time it has been appeared two new functions to buy:
  • Tunnel Sight Pro
  • Funny Voices: Darth Vader

What I am not so happy is that Becker thinks that they can request every function a excessive price (the functions speedcameras and tunnel view are baseline for 100€ portable systems)

Who is the first to test?:thumb:

Thanks for the heads-up.

I have downloaded the new s/w, after a couple of false starts. It took about 15 minutes, my copper connexion is about 6mb/sec.

I tested the new s/w by calculating my route for tomorrow's trip, seems to work OK, but I'll let you know if it gets me there and back at some point tomorrow evening.

I just updated my unit.
The process was slightly confusing as it wanted to simultaneously update
1) Becker Content Manager
2) Unit Firmware
3) Unit Software

Using Windows XP when I started BCM it told me it needed to update to a newer version and would close and download it - but then got stuck in a loop where it said it couldn't update until I closed BCM, which there wasn't an option to do.
I resolved this by killing the process in Task Manager while the popup window was still open, then clicking Retry...

Connecting the unit to the new BCM it asked me to update the software and also the firmware. I agreed to both of these (not realising at the time they were different). The firmware downloaded quickly and asked for the reset button to be pressed on the unit - meanwhile the software update was downloading. I found a pin and reset the unit, and cancelled the software download (as was wary of it trying to update the software in the middle of a firmware update)

I then restarted the software update and that proceeded successfully.
So I have gone from
Firmware R22.3.1205 to R26.3.0130
Software 2.0.51 to 2.5.26

Update - plugged the unit into the car and
7 digit postcodes can now be entered properly :bannana:
Also alternative routes can be calculated easily as well.

Haven't actually driven anywhere with it but so far so good...

Annoyingly there's a new map available - my 45 days expired about 3 weeks ago so updated to the Q4 2011 map then
Don't fancy 90 euros just yet - maybe next year...

I had the same issue as igk1 re 'update' not starting properly, finally worked on 4th attempt

So far the update has taken

12 minutes to downloas the 'update' to Content Manager (for a 21mb file !!!)

It then said it was downloading 23 Packages - total of 4333mb - 11 Minutes

Firmware Download took 2 minutes going to R26.3.0130

Reste the device

OS Install took 2 Minutes - this was actual firmware being updated

Then got prompted for Software download

Device software another 300mb plus and Maps 3800 MB - This has been running 17 Minutes and is at 19%

So its pretty slow ...... This is on a 9mbps ADSL Connection

Re igk1's comments on Maps it appears the 'New' Maps are going to be from Feb 2012 so hardly up to date. Lets hope they get their act together on this for future because if next update is in 6 months they will be at least 18 months out of date then :-(

I finally upgrade my unit (as described by IGK1) and even drive a bit.

Diferenes:

1) route alternatives are offered just after calculate it. This is good and works well :thumb:
2) more options are available at the route menu (pressing the knob on route). To check the diferences
3) Now you can quickly come back to map view from main menu by pressing the back button (before it was necesary to select map):thumb:
4) while driving, when appear the junction view, it is possible to go inmediately to map view by pressing the back button :thumb:
5) in full map view now the ETA apears in the left down corner while number of GPS and TMC sign are on te lower right corner

No traces of tunnel view (sure that only appear if you pay) and NO CHANGE IN SPEEDCAMS!!

Ok, thats enough for today! Please complete the change list by any new functions or changes that you identify.

Downloaded last night -firmware -software - map update, in total it took about 3 hours, which seems about norm for the unit. Tried it on the way to work this morning. I noted all the same changes as cfdezg I purchased, the tunnel view as it was only 4.95 euros, still not sure what it gives me. On the speedcams I noticed that when the unit sounded a warning the icon was shown on the road where the camera is as normal. It also showed this icon in a larger view on the left hand side of the screen, cant recall if it did this before or not.
Also the graphic showing the street you are turning into looks to have been made more prominent as is the box round it. Didn't download the Darth Vader voice option, might have done, but was worried that I wouldn't be able to turn it off when I got fed up with it. Anyone know if there is an option to switch between voices if you download it. One of the biggest moans about the system seems unchanged and that's the dimming of other audio sources during guidance. It appears to be exactly the same as before, doesn't bother me, but I know a lot of people have complained about it. If I find more changes I will post them

Mine took 2 1/2 to 3 hours to upgrade in the end too.

I notice the speed camera functionality has changed too but unfortunately not for the better.

I get warned when Camera is close on route or in a side street (as before) BUT now I cannot turn off the audible warning anymore that worked before if you were within speed limit. Maybe I need to play with settings some more

I also note that when it warns of what I presume is mobile speed cameras there is NO Icon in the Map to let you know where it is etc which is quite confusing. I turned off the warning for Mobile Danger Spots which avoids this as I have 'Audible Speed Warning' set to kick in at 5mph over so it tends to keep me within limit anyway.

I am actually now wondering if 'Danger Spots' i.e. Speed Cameras is actually worth buying given unit by default can warn you if you go over limit but then I guess not everyone has discovered the joys of 60+ mpg when sticking to around 70.

Alternative Route functionality looks like it could be quite nice

TMC 'appears' to be working fine so far

I completed my little trip out and it appears that the Map Pilot is doing what it says on the tin. I can't be bothered with Darth Vader, the woman from the BBC will do, the TMC is working as well, it told me about a closure of the A41 in Shropshire that was news to me, so full marks. The radio was tuned to Classic FM which is a station that broadcasts such data. I had previously downloaded the latest map data, so the download time for the new s/w was only about 15 minutes as I said earlier. I found another error in the map data, concerning a roundabout on the Shrewsbury bypass, it seems that Becker's cartographers drop the odd clanger.

Hi, I have just purchased a vehicle with a Becker map pilot from 10/11.

I have a issue where the map wont change from night setting to day time when its day time and the lights aren't on. Has anyone experienced this and how to solve ?

Many Thanks

Have you checked in the Audio 20 Unit settings ?

I.E. System / Display

There is the Option for Day / Night or Automatic.

Personally I wasn't overly keen on the night colours and set it to day mode.

If you adjust the brightness of the screen to about setting 2 it seems to be fine in daytime and and night (well for me anyway)

Thanks

I did try Becker , they said the usual update the software !

The missus has the SLK today, is it fairly simple to check and change the audio 20 settings for Day/Night ? Is this an option in the manual ?

Thanks All

All sorted now, was the Audio 20 settings the previous owner had set to night time only !

All updated in 3 hours. My question is how annoying is darth vader? Has anyone used it? Speed cameras. - do they include the well used mobile spots in the uk?

Updated mine today.

7 digit postcode works well and the new extension of the M74 is included now on the map.

Ooh. Thanks for the heads up. Will grab mine from the car and fire up the lappie.

How long has that M74 extension been open now ? Just trying to tie in roughly how old the maps really are, its at least 1-2 years now, right ?

My TomTom Live didn't have the extension 6 months ago either so its kind of encouraging
