Upgrade of Becker Map Pilot (with new features)

Have to give credit to Becker support around new maps.

If you use my handover date that i received new car on, then I was within the 45 days free upgrade limit. But If you take the day the unit was first "seen" then it was outside the 45 days. Quick call to support and then sorted it so I could still get the maps for free - no hassles and how customer support should be.

+ I had lot of help from thim with my update initially, they where always helpful and available until 8pm.

Thanks for all the views on this will do the upgrade. When Googling it I came across a Becker 'Online Training Course' Page 7 says in Q1 2013 map upgrades will come on SD card saving downloads - not sure if anyone was aware of this?

Anyone tried this tunnel vision yet - what does it do as I sometimes find the junctions a bit small after Tom Tom

A couple of snags I see with this is the increased possibility of the card being used more than once or being hacked /cloned for its data :p and the fact the old unit data will have to be removed first via the update manager. It will avoid the time taken to download the data but presumably you will have to wait for delivery by mail from Germany so I'm not sure how this makes things faster except for those with very slow/unreliable internet connections [ which I do acknowledge is the case for some folks:(] That said any download is not "PC specific" but pilot/download manager specific and the Map pilot+software can be updated on any computer anywhere? ;) That said Becker do seem to be getting their act together after the 4Gb/8Gb debacle thankfully.:thumb: I do suspect that drivers in Germany are slightly better served than the rest of us Europeans but I guess that's to be expected.:dk:

Just upgraded and only took about half an hour. Plugged I in an postcode function works properly and it's much quicker to mute. Wnt o kms instead of miles Hutu occasionally does that anyway.

Used the Darth Vader voice now for a couple of days, and to be honest it's a bit of fun, with some amusing phrases and the voice is clearer than Serena. And of course if I get fed up with Darth and his heavy breathing I can always revert to the lovely Serena

Only notice today that since doing the upgrade last week my auto fade of radio etc is now not working. I have checked the settings on audio 20 unit and it still has a tick in the box. Tried un-ticking it and trying it and then ticking again but no difference. Always worked prior to update. Anyone else had this issue and managed to sort it?

Welcome to my world, my fade worked with new BMP pre upgrade end of January, upgraded to 2.0.51, no more fade, MB Dealership weren't interested, Becker says its the Audio 20 unit so catch 22 ... MB Cust Services logged it saying nobody had reported before. I have got very used to adjusting nav vol at car start up now. They seem to have screwed up speed camera warnings now too as it always warns even when 'only when speeding' is set on. They clearily don't test too well

The music fade never worked on mine but I think is a Mercedes thing. I got a c class with command last week (courtesy car) and the music didn't fade either. The lady just keeps talking over the music when giving directions.
On a parallel note. I did not like command sat nav. Becker has a much more modern layout and interface is better to use. Other than a bigger screen, I am happier with the Becker option.

I think I might be able to clear the fade problem. It came up a while ago on the forum, I had the car into Mercedes and they couldn't work it out.

Basically, the fade does work but you have to have the volumes set correctly. As a test, turn the music up rather loud and then turn the sat nav volume quite low, this should work.

I saw the previous threads on this too but the radio has to be so loud the speakers start to vibrate ( in my case) for this to appear to work so it seems buggy to me, the Audio 20 manual implies the Nav volume is linked to the Audio Volume but it seems completely separate on mine too.

Its a shame they didnt just implement it so Nav either replaces other audio completely or reduces audio by decent amount whatever the Nav kicks in

Makes me wonder if the person who decides the volume levels at MB is as deaf as a dodo or has a weird sense of humour. Given the quality of sound proofing etc the volume doesn't need to be overly high to be heard well even at motorway speeds. Maybe the volumes are based on a Cabriolet with roof down as maybe the volume level required would be nearer the mark.

Surely if enough of us would like this changed they would sort it but MB Cust Services claim nobody else ever reported it.

Got an email from Becker about the 2.50 software update today.

Took long enough for them to send that.

Installed in about 15 minutes including Firmware update etc, although I do have a 40mbbps internet connection!

I too have received the e-mail from Becker. Only thing is I have already updated!

Yep! me too. The Becker update notification finally arrived.

They were plugging the map update too, but not, I notice, the 2 year subscription.
I'm still very dubious about Mr Becker and his ability to do a decent job of the sat nav, and the one 'silly voice' is just taking the piss...
Both Garmin and TomTom do a much much much better job.

Dunno if I can be bothered to go back downstairs to get the 'box' again and do the map update, I'll prolly leave it until I next go abroad.

Post code input still as before

Update - plugged the unit into the car and
7 digit postcodes can now be entered properly :bannana:
Also alternative routes can be calculated easily as well.

Haven't actually driven anywhere with it but so far so good...

Annoyingly there's a new map available - my 45 days expired about 3 weeks ago so updated to the Q4 2011 map then
Don't fancy 90 euros just yet - maybe next year...

After the update my post code input appears the same!
Ie. after the initial 2 it still jumps to the prompt list an so on ?

It shouldn't now, maybe the update hasn't completed successfully

Version should be 2.5 now instead of 2.0

Try removing everything in content manager and reinstall

Becker Map Pilot GPS freezing

Careful! Since I upgraded mine from Firmware R22.3.1205 to R26.3.0130
and Software 2.0.51 to 2.5.26 (with associated Q4 2011 maps), I seem to be having issues with GPS position fixes. From time to time, the device seems to 'freeze' its GPS location. At that point it says no (0) satellites and no GPS signal.

I am not 100% sure yet the issue is due to the Map Pilot device (who knows the in-car GPS antenna cable could have a connection issue), but it strongly feels like an issue with the latest firmware R26.3.0130. Reason for that? When it freezes, I can't get it to work anymore (tried all possible resets), but the next morning it usually works again. As if after x hours with no power (?) the GPS position resets its self ("cold boot" / initial fix?).

Have also tried restoring to Software 2.0.51 (still facing issues however), but that doesn't restore the previous firmware I think.

Prior to this upgrade (did another upgrade earlier), all worked fine. Never had problems.

I sent a service/support question to [email protected]. Will post here when I have more details and/or a solution.

No such issues here

Joined this thread a bit late as we have just bought an SLK with Audio 20. I've just bought a Becker Map Pilot on e-bay and it should arrive next week.

I note that it can be updated within 45 days of registration. I presume this is a map update rather than a firmware/software update.

I'm guessing that the maps are updated every year.

What is the latest map update:dk: and is there one due soon:dk:
