Upgrade of Becker Map Pilot (with new features)

All updated in 3 hours. My question is how annoying is darth vader? Has anyone used it? Speed cameras. - do they include the well used mobile spots in the uk?

The Mobile Speed warnings seem to know a lot of spots (possibly too many) and I am actaully thinking of turning the warnings off completely now as in built up areas its more of a distraction/danger than help as I find it goes off so often I end up trying to figure out if its one I need to worry about or not

Its strange because sometimes in will beep, then do a double beep then a single beep for 1 camera at various distances i.e 1 beep about 300/400 yds, double about 200 and then beep at camera location. Other times only 1 beep about 300/400 yds bef camera, added to that it warns of cameras roughly 300/400 yds not even on route it isnt too clever. Ok not everywhere has such a huge number of cameras in one area but I would imagine anyone driving in a City must find it very tedious indeed

I cant find any decent documentation on exactly how its supposed to behave either which makes reporting it back to becker a bit difficult as you dont know whats a feature of unit and whats a bug in software.

Hopefully they will recode it to only warn for route you are on, kinda makes sense

How long has that M74 extension been open now ?

It opened on June 28, 2011.

My Map Pilot was only purchased this month and is a BBE Q3/2014 version. Initially loaded with the previous maps and it wasn't on there.

Pleased that it updated with the new M74 details before my 45 day free update expired :D

All update done today finally spent the day at wedding at Surrey downs so had good chance to test and I was very impressed. Well worth the money.

Latest map download appears to be Q212 which I assumes end of second quarter 2012= End of June 2012 :dk:

Silly question but are you guys paying for the map updates?

They remain free for a period of 45 days after the system is first registered. After that I think you have to pay-- for the maps at least? software and firmware upgrades may remain free not sure. The best way is to plug your map pilot into the PC and run the Becker Content Manager program- navigate to the SHOW button-- maps tab this will tell you if your maps are out of date- if you then use the small"shop" button in the bottom rh corner this will take you to the Becker centre where all upgrades are listed - if you are eligible for a free download of any product it will be listed as free. You may still have to go through the "purchase process" but you will find the cost is always listed as zero

vis a vis the Becker Content Manager I have always found it easiest to go to the download tab section of the BECKER main website to get the latest version and manually download it. The automated BCM update facility often seems to get trapped in some sort of loop. It should always be your first step before downloading anything else.

Cheers for that. I got a free map update when I first got the device (over a year ago now) so no free maps for me :( rubbish!

Did you expect Darth Vadar voice to be any different!

I think you can still get the software update free of charge, the map update is pretty competetive at 89.95 euros based on updates from main dealers for there systems.

Yes..software update is fine. 89.95 euros for a map update after paying £250 for the device

Too be honest, I think i'll be selling the map pilot when I change the car. Would the buyer get the free map update?

I didn't purchase because I guess it will be extremely annoying. I was wondering if anyone had got it and would provide feedback

I thought I would buy to see what it was like, I paid, downloaded it, I could see it downloading, it then updated my unit, it showsas being on the unit on the content manager, but when I put it back in the car nothing had changed, no new voice. I took it out and put it back but still nothing. That's the only feedback I can give you, I have emailed Becker so I will wait to see what they say

I wonder if its listed as a completely new Language ? I certainly havent seen any other menu options where the voice can be changed

You were close, when you go into the language menu and select English, it then gives you the option to select the new voice or 'Serena' as she is called aka the default voice. I will let you know what I think when I have used it for a day or so.

Ah so she's called Serena - she has an odd accent - mostly English, but I notice a touch of German slips in every now and then: 'after 200 yards' sounds very strict!
On the other hand Comand is posher sounding but seems to sound like she's asking a question: 'Turn left onto the A 2? 2? 1?'

Yes, I'm mostly pleased by the update. Wish Becker had bothered to tell me about it, particularly as I had registered etc.

Can't read any of the new functions, but then I can't read the buttons on the heater unit either, not with my driving glasses on...

I see I can upgrade the map data one time, or pay a little more for 2 years of updates. I don't know if I trust Becker to actually do that, considering the enormous gap (one and a half years!?) since the last map update...

P.

Used it for the first time since the update today. I like the way you can quickly and easily mute it. Maybe I never noticed before but click the wheel to get menu then there's a mute button one turn clockwise. Easy.

I must be lucky as I did the update yesterday and took less that an hour. Have not tried using it in anger yet, but it does now accept full postcode without any faffing about.
