URGENT CANT UNLOCK CAR c32

Dieselman said:
They will all bubble a bit when charging, but if one is bubbling a lot it's short circuit, so dead cell.

9.55v is very low for an unloaded battery. If it's 20% down and has six cells that makes me think one has gone down.

Roger gonna pop covers carefully and take a shifty

Common sense would say wait till charged them meter on and watch it drop ??? The last owner had power drain complaint took it to merc dealer , no drains were found and replaced the batt , that was 2 years ago

With the battery of the car, charged it for 12 hours and then check the voltage.
A decent battery each cell should be 2.2 volts so 2.2 X 2 =13.2
below 12 its duff

So if it says fully charged in the charger and its not 13.2 ish is no good ? Ok so if it drops without a drain it's fooked aswell ? Thanks for help so far everyone suck at electrics , but want to solve this myself with your help ;)

Just replace battery

As suspected first day one cheap fix if that's all it is you have to ask why would the battery is dead as it was being charged from alternator if a daily driver

Battery from motor factors get two years warranty and from mb so it may well have gone

I always use Bosch battery's so far they have never let me down have one car with a nine year old Bosch battery and perfect

I them have had friends that have cars and they replace nearly every few years

Charging it now and will take to get it checked tomorrow as can't ping off the covers to check cells

Prob right new battery will see tomorrow , thanks as us daily driver and common sense a power drain wouldnt show

For peace of mind I think you'll change it could stop a lot of silly faults also happening on the car from low voltage

Let hope she is purring tomorrow for you

Keep us posted

I though the battery was a two year old Mercedes branded battery, in which case I would think it was unlikely to have failed.

Before spending any money, test the battery and current drain.

If the battery won't charge or loses charge when disconnected, it's toast, otherwise, it's current drain.

That's my plan it is a 2 yr batt mb will know more tomorrow thanks again bud

Mine is a daily driver.....battery died over night and it was the alarm sounder draining it in the end....then when that was fixed the seat module....!

Was the battery stored in the garage or in the house?

From memory you are looking at either 25-50% remaining charge at 12V remaining charge depending on the temperature the battery has been stored at.

So regardless you battery is not holding charge.

However you may not have fixed the problem and could be dealing with the symptoms rather than the cause. You still need to check for current drain to be sure the problem wont return in day/weeks after changing the battery.

How long was it on charge

How long after you charged it did you check voltage again

And in doors sounds like battery has a problem

Indoors mate

That would mean your battery has 25% or less charge remaining. To give you an idea I have a spare leisure battery which I use to start my cars if they are flat it is stored indoors and that has not been charged for more than 2 months and is reading 12.66V just now.

Chances are you have found your problem but as you have the multimeter it is still worth checking that you don’t have anything that is causing current drain and as such putting your battery under unnecessary strain.

Thanks again you have been more than helpful taking your time to give me hand ;)
