Hi Guys,

Appologies if this has been asked before, I'm new to the forum and wasn't sure where to look or post.

Can I simply replace the bonnet and bumbers on my 1990 300ce with newer versions from a face lift or do i need new wings and headlights?

Cheers
Scott

You need a new bonnet and grill, as well as headlamps and the strip under your headlamp too I think. You also need the rear filler panel and metal strip around the rear number plate.

You would also need to paint the car and go mono tone, and either paint your black bumper strips and get them colour matched or change the whole bumper assembleys as they are slightly different.

Cheaper to buy a facelift.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Will leave as is then and contuine saving to address the oil leak!

Cheers

Converting it won't cure you oil leak!!!!!!!!!!!

I would not convert anyway...there were probably a lot more M104 Coupe's made than M103s..........and the M103 is, (or will be), far more sought after than the M104.

Reminds me a little of my MGB.........I had a 1965 MGB, (chrome bumper), and in 1976 when the rubber bumper model came out.......I thought the rubber bumpers looked a lot better, (at that time), and went into the BL dealer and asked if I could buy them to replace the chrome bumpers................little did I know

Edit after reading next thread
(on rarity value I think that there were more chrome bumper than rubber bumper made - but there are less chrome bumpers left!)

So following on from the rarity angle , a 300CE-24 with sportline, being preface lift, having a M104 engine, and only a short period of production, should become the most valuable and sought after in years to come?

Only The Boss may reply.:D

I cant speak specifically for the W124 E Class. But on the W203 C Class 2004 facelift update there are numerous differences.
It really depends exactly what you mean by a conversion.
There are basically three ways you could approach a conversion.
The first would be just changing the main visual/cosmetic items to make the car appear to be a facelift model.
The second would be changing ALL the visual/cosmetic items. This would obviously require a greater number of changes - but still possible - but expensive. This is the point at which a conversion would become financially unviable as a it would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a facelift model anyway.
The third and final conversion would be to replace EVERYTHING that is different between the two models.
If the E Class facelift update is anything like the C Class facelift update, then this is virtually out the question. There are simply too many and costly differences to do this. Brakes, dashboard, internal trim and body galvanised items are just a small part of the differences.
As has been said, its often easier, quicker and cheaper to actually buy a PROPER facelifted model. That way you get ALL the benefits from the full update and not just a few new bits bolted on what is basically an older design.

E320 Prices are bizarre or simply people are assuming all secondhand cars are worthless and you can pick up a mint E320 M Reg for 2300 to 3500. Or... I got lucky and the other cheap ones are dogs. However, I do sincerely believe that all E Coupes will become sought after. Even the Carrot Douch Chalets. the tired old dogs will be scrapped or suddenly become worth two grand....trade ins. and the ones left will be worth something. the last mark of Engineer vs Budget victory, by a company who knew a thing or two.

Hmmm.

Temporarily I have a CE and E320 C124 and have been driving the 95 in the morning and the 89 in the evening. The difference is huge. i dont mean in terms of power but in terms of sound, vibration, wind noise, handling, braking etc, and a different character. No ones really interested in the E, but the CE got looks and admiration.

Oddly the CE was 15 when I bought it, same ages as the E is now. the CE has 121 on the clock and the E has 114. the CE had ****e tyres, a few days of MOT left and the elderly owner said never missed a beat that car, and its not as juicy as you think, I bought it in Devon, and drove back to surrey in a wet summers night which cleared into a beautiful starry pillarless experience.
The CE had new tyres, new pads and had just had a £737 service. But i couldnt help thinking a lights going to come on any minute saying go to HSBC, withdraw £200, and hope.

The previous owner was the Late Terry Boyce. "Boycie" I thought as i selected D, if your a villain, i'll find you, I'll come looking in the CE and black out the windows and park outside your house, Terry's long gone, but the mental images of the cars former life flood my mind. World of leather faced ladies with leopard skin bags and dodgy haircuts, sitting the back while Terry and his pal sat in the front cruise through Romford going to a party at someone essex mansion...maybe.

Terry's last bill was a shocker £737, Silly Terry was still going to Mr Main Dealer. Talk about a target, taking an old car to a Main Dealer shouts I'm loaded f-me over now. Terry's last payment off the £42k price and, horror of horror the service costs more. Aaghh. and Terry is no longer Merry.

For example mines semi poverty, no ac no cruise, but does have a few toys, the leathers still very supportive and un bolster battered, but the Velour seats in the 300CE are more comfy, and electric adjusting which is miles better, no question about it. Go from adjusting twice a day to just sitting there. The e320 has no glove box, its now a self inflating dolly bird with illuminous breasts. apparently. no glove box ? means all your stuff takes off when the windows down as they will be as there's no air con and its 2009 not 2008/07. No vanity mirrors either. i so miss doing a danny la rue while waiting for SWMBO or some drunk **** who thinks I'm a cabbie. the 300CE had a bit of dont f. with me image to it for some reason where the E320 just has nice old merc.

The CE probably escorted muscle around hackney once or coke snorting property developers with nasty mates, look twice and it'll have you. No really, it will. it also has a bit of Terminator two about it. Sooner or later it will repair itself and keep coming for you, mile after mile.

the E320 will just wait, you know you want some more but you dont want the neighbours to know, nor the wife.

The E320 meanwhile took ladies that do lunch and self made money men who knew a classy motor when they saw one. Eventually as it aged it finds itself belonging to people who feel the same way as the first owner did and decide to keep it as immacualte as possible and enjoy the journey to mintdom.

the Rads different, the lights different front and rear, the Boots different (filler only) the paints montone. and you know you'd want to strip the skirts, and then your slipping into full refurb territory.
, the Dash is diffeent the silly economy gauge has gone for starters.

So. in other words, dont spend a grand making a Porsche look like a Ferrari when the clever man can have both.
