W202 Fuel consumption

Just joined the forum as I'm looking to purchase a '98 C240. Can anyone tell me what the average fuel consumption is for the 2.4 V6.

The V6 returns around 24 to 33 MPG depending on the car it is fitted in,, it is a superb engine

Believe it or not I've just bought it on E-bay about 5 mins ago. 1998, 51k miles FMBSH, silver. Can't wait to pick it up. I was going to go for the C180 but it didn't seem to be much more economical. Looking forward to the forum experience.

When I had mine, I could never muster over 24 - 28mpg.

I would be happy with 28-30, that is a nice 1 but I prefer the elegance, maybe I'm just getting older.

In the SL 129 I could get over 30 when doing a long run, and 33 on one occasion

I don't think that you will see 28 -30 in town on the C240 V6.

Ive owned the C280 V6, the C240 V6 and now the C230K, and the best economy wise and performance wise has been the C230K.

The V6 is super smooth, but tends to be juicy and a bit lazy in comparison to the C230K.

The 230k is slightly faster and slightly more enconmical, but its corse and a world away from the so so smooth V6. Also thrash the V6 and you get a nice note from the back of the car aswell

When you get the car, make sure its quick off the mark and not sluggish, if it is then the MAF will need replacing.

Mine has averaged exactly 30mpg over the 40000 miles I have had it. On a run 33 -35 is possible if you stay under 85mph. Around Stuttgart I get 23 mpg, but it's very hilly, lots of red lights and short journeys.

Hi I have a 2001 C240 Estate. I'm getting 30.1 over 4,000 miles mostly longish drives on dual carrige ways. Round town about 26 28 mpg. Beautiful engine.
