W211 E55 AMG or W203 C55 AMG Wanted

I know exactly what you mean. ;)

TBH we'd both have to have been comatose to have missed everything that was wrong with that car and its owner.

I've got a good feeling about the first one I'm viewing tomorrow. I saw a black W211 E320 (I think) CDI with E55 wheels and full AMG bodykit on it yesterday. It looked really nice. Good timing as I'll be looking at the real deal before long... :)

I put more emphasis on other things and, in no particular order; the person selling the car is a big factor and I generally get a 'feeling' for a car, which is hard to put into words.

In my experience, it's been those with loads of history that have turned out to be lemons. This may sound very strange but it is the honest truth that those with hardly any paperwork were faultless...

It's true in my case - mine only had the service book and nothing else.

I usually keep lots of paperwork and give it with the car so the buyer can see what has been done.

However, I was more interested mine wasn't stolen or on HP, was running beautifully and the seller - except it was a traded car so I wasn't buying from the owner.

Sorry - when you posted that, I thought that was something you and your misses did...

:D

Good luck with the search mate.

Before you do anything why don't you test drive both, it will give you a good idea of what to go for...

that's what I did before I went for mine.

This one caught my eye a while ago but it was out of my price range:
engagegear : MERCEDES-BENZ E CLASS E55K 4DR TIP AUTO

And they've just knocked £1k off this one that John (developer215) linked to:
Automotive Dreams : MERCEDES E55 AMG SALOON CLIMATE SEATS RADAR CRUISE FMBSH + MORE

If I was going to spend around the £15k mark, I'd stretch and get an E63. ;)

As much as I'm impatient when I want something, it's not like I'm running around in an Austin Allegro. :)

Today's mood sees me thinking about buying a C55 for about £9k and banking the rest until I can buy an E63. Having said that, when buying cars, my moods can change with the wind.

The problem is buddy, you'll be going pre facelift again - it might not seem a problem, but, engine aside, I think it will be.

GreetMe came from a beemer, not a facelift W211, in fact MB is a completely new marque to him.

Unless you crave forced induction I'd wait for that E63.

Why will it be a problem pre-facelift?

You're not really in 'good' E63 in the mid teens yet either so you'd have to stretch to late teens...

Don't get me wrong - I'm not anti pre facelift -I had one before this and it was great.

It's just (IMO) that the mods at facelift refresh the car, the grille, mirrors, steering wheel (which Lee has already said he's got a problem with), gearknob etc.

I agree you'd need late teens for a good E63 which is why I'm suggesting he waits a bit.

I'm not trying to knock the pre-facelift, I did have four of the things, it's just that I like the more aggressive way in which Mercedes started heading in the mid-noughties.

The more I think about it, the more that I think I should go for a C55, for a change more than anything. Then maybe get an E63 in about six-nine months?

Oooh, I don't know...:wallbash:

This sounds like a good plan. :)

what would I do with that if I was to hire a C63?

You can`t have one as you already have a wife and kids
Last I heard was that in order to have one (rent one) you should have no wife no kids and no dogs

I think if you are not keen on pre-facelift, I would wait and put all your resources into getting a better E63.

When I was looking, the cheapest was a 2007/57 with 100,000 miles I think and was £23k.

A year on and a good one with 60k miles is £18k

Spending anything now will cost you more as you are factoring in the cost-to-change costs as well as anything you need to do on the C55.

I Guess the longer you wait for these car maybe the less desirable they become? as fuel increases?

I love them and would have loved a E55 estate (my old boss had one) and really 2 years ago after I sold my ML then was the time. I was used to 20mpg on a good day fuel.

Now I really don't think I could get my head round £120 to fill up and getting 300 miles or so. Being honest there is little opportunity on the roads I drive on to use the power I have so in one of these.....

I do think if SPX wants one then its an itch that needs sratching. It would not be for me to go for a C class after your E class's. They do feel smaller by quite a bit and the ones I've been in (none have been AMG) quality and finish doesn't seem 'as' good?

As above also buying a C55 for a few months (maybe 6) and swapping again is losing more money I would think? You would want to get what ever you buy right and by the time you have spend £££ on it you will be looking to swap...

Either way I think the searching is almost as much fun as owning, so good luck in that. If I spot anything I will try and post it up.

Really??? There's the initial thrill of finding what you hope will be the one for you but apart from that searching and negotiating are a tortuous but necessary evil that you're forced to undergo to get to ownership.
