Chaps,

Loving my new to me 2007 63, however I need pointers drilling down to the detail quickly on the best way to improve ever so slightly the exhaust note.

I don't want to detract too much away from stock as it already sounds amazing under full chat and cold start however I'd like a slightly deeper (not louder) burble on idle and pulling away without any drone at constant speed.

I've read up on this topic prior to posting however just want a one stop shop for opinions from you lot to make my mind up with most things I do from here.

Cheers
Billy.

Speak to Acid MSL they did mine when I had the E63.

cheers fella, how did you like the sound?

Simple mod would be to remove secondary Cats and res box (as I did on my E55k)....would remain the same at idle and around town but would have a much deeper tone when you hit the 'loud' pedal...:thumb:

MSL are very good and based in Mids, as you are in London you have PCS, and Eurocharged tuners...I am sure others will add more local to you...

...any views on Deceleration sounds?

I had the secondary cats out only and it was perfect no drone etc with deeper sound.

I've been told the standard system is really good quality so need to mess about too much with it.

I'd go with removing the secondary cats only first then see how you feel.

Hi Billy, I did a post Cat delete on my E63 estate, there is virtually no noticable difference in sound level inside, outside though now sounds just like my brothers C63 (which was always slightly louder than my E63). If you go to my FB page https://www.facebook.com/rjmglenrothes there is before & after videos which really does not do it justice but will give you an idea.

thanks for the reply's so far guys,

CJ, that is very helpful indeed and acatually very noticeable difference in sound... you're getting that rather nice crackle! Start sounds deeper too.

That's probably the furthest I'd go? I wouldn't touch the rear boxes at all...

just so im xtal clear the secondary cats we are talking about are the two smaller oval type boxes front end of the car yes?

..is there any impact on emissions etc?

If you get Acid to do it they will know what you mean by secondary cats only.

People usually take out the resonator too but that's too much imo.

Thanks Billy, I fitted an X pipe, if you scroll down the photos you will see the images.

or leave everything intact and get some c63 rear boxes, job done!

Having some lengthy time with you tube watching vids on 63's....removing both secondary and the main cat makes the car sound like a truck when idle?!!

i think im with c200k on this removing the scondary cats will prob do me fine.

any thoughts?

Don't remove the primary cats, just the secondaries. Up to you if you remove the resonator as well, but taking out the secondary cats should give you a nice deep growl.

It's never going to sound much like a C63 though unless you use the rear mufflers

Leave the primary's

I have a C63 with the secondary cats gutted so no MOT issues.

Apparently, all they are there for is to suppress some sound, it's the primary's that take care of emissions.

The difference was virtually un-noticeable on start up and at lower revs but it's a much deeper bark at higher revs and on opening the throttle more.

I also had a Eurocharged remap, on the C it allows the intake flaps to open fully instead of 80-85% so there's more induction roar too, this shouldn't be an issue with the E as they open fully from the factory I believe.

Trust me I'm talking from experiance ;)

Secondary Cats ONLY!

whoa there hold on a sec you Performance boffs.....im confused!

let me see if im on the same page here! I understand that there are two 'cats' on the down pipes i.e. next to the manifolds, then there are two oval looking things on that 'H' pipe thingy, then you get the main cat in the centre of the car.

can i get my terminology right:

By resonator/primary are we talking = main cat i.e. down the middle

By secondary cats are we talking = the oval thingy's where the H pipe is?

im not stupid honest! haha
