Yes I did just that and from the symptoms, the nice man predicted that my car was a high mileage diesel probably used as a chauffer car at some point with damage to the amplifier due to refluxing fumes through the trunk. Also, a replacement cost a bomb, with like for like part number being advised plus coding.

Amp Part number is A 2218707789 but there are loads of these Amps on ebay, why can't this just plug and play ?

Ideally on installation the firmware needs updating so all the audio units in the car have compatible firmware. Saying that, most of the time they will work - assuming the unit comes from Europe. If you take one from out of Europe that can need coding for radio frequency spacing.

However there are almost none on eBay (one i found in USA and one in Ireland), and if its come out of another diesel ....

So, yes, you can get used ones. New ones are ££££ (and used ones are £££)

I badly need good advice

Here the picture :
2008 S Class 305L with all the toys, owned from new with just 50K miles


Last December - CD unit sent to company in UK for head repair
2 months after - got my CD back
3 - returns later - CD played but now the rest of system is acting up
8 onths later after sending more units back and promises / promises that its fixed - I am now in a worse state than I started with
.
Last visit - both Harmon Kardon and command unit went back to be checked.
They stated that HK was a problem and now replaced ( did not agree with this but had to do it )
When the system came back
1- No Linguatronic working
2- Phone not working
3- Scrolling is impossible as its jumps when the scroll is pushed to enter
4- Harmon Kardon sound is working but CD is now not working.


The garage here tried to update the system with CD's firmware but every time it freezes in the middle of the update. They seem to have given up at this stage


I have sold the car but now I can not go through with it because I have to fix this first ( naturally )

You should ensure the whole system has a firmware update after changing any component including the AGW/HK amp because there is different software levels and its not guaranteed that unless everything is at same level that it will work as designed

But the reality is that it

Rwill work being just swopped over as almost all the config is held in the COMAND head unit.

I used an independent Mercedes specialist in Manchester called M-Star. Sorry for late reply and hope you've sorted your problem.

Just as an update the amplifier stopped working after 1 and a half years again and I have the car for sale now as no longer needed due to a replacement. The Amp still needs replacing.
