I was driving my Audi A4 lastnight..
Apparantly I was 5 miles over the limit. But my speed was going "up and down"

He made me pull to the side of a dangerous road, took my details and told me to take the slip to my local police station.

Upon arriving at the station i would have to pay 60 quid and have three points.

All the while, it seemed he had a trainee Police Officer in the passenger seat. Who could barely make out my numberplate. Hence the the reason i think she was a trainee.

Why dont they go and do a proper job and catch the chavs who broke into my girlfriends house lastweek?

One good thing that came out of it was. "Thats a nice car, look after it".

How long does it take to have the 3 points removed? is it three years?

Ah go and arrest me. I broke the law yeah? 5 miles over the limit. No wonder this country is going to hell..

Give me a break lol. I take it you like being shafted. Excuse the pun..

No, but I know that if I break the law and get caught it's my own fault.

Why people can't accept responsibility for their own actions is beyond me. The Police's job is to enforce the law, nothing more, nothing less.

You should have opted to appear in court instead of accepting on the spot fine. Didn't you read my thread about court appearance, it too expensive right now to pay people to do it. You should have contested it for just 5mph, you have allowance of +10%.

Where I appreciate you pointing out
I was 5 miles over the limit
you then go on to say this was on
a dangerous road
on reflection I think maybe the officer made the correct call there.

If you don't do wrong you won't get caught, but if you do, don't complain if you are.

And yes I have been known to break the speed limit, but when I did get caught I payed up without complaint It was a fair cop guv

Oh, by the way you weren't given 3 points...you earned them

I over took a police car once, while driving a well used Sprinter van, after 5 miles or so they caught me up and flashed their headlights until I stopped.
Police woman says, you were speeding, I point out that I was not, she says fair enough, but you over took on solid white lines, I pointed out that I had not, she says fair enough, but be more carefull next time.

I only over took the police car because it pulled out onto the main road without looking, I decided not to press the point in case I was accused of doing something else that I had not done....

It's probably the inconsistent speed that drew his attention to you.

Out of interest what was the speed limit of the road you were on?

Hi. The speed limit was 40. No one else was on the road at the time. I was literally 60 seconds away from my house.

I went to the station and paid the fine. No doubt it will be spent wisely...

So 5mph over is more than 10% and is prob based on the lower of the speeds you were doing as your speed appears to have fluctuated. Sounds a fair cop to me. 60 seconds away from your home is irrelevant, just unlucky to get caught. But if you do the crime as the saying goes.............

Unlucky to get caught, I'm sure we've all done a few mph over the speed limit in our time. Just have to be a bit more careful in future!

£60 quite painful. You should have said I needed the toilet for you got diarrhoea and needed to get home quick. :D

Could you not have made a silly excuse, or just deny it. Unless they were gathering evidence, (video footage, timed tailings with a calibrated speedo etc) I'd be tempted to challenge it. Did you admit to the offence, never do that as thats the evidence for the crime.

It is an infraction of the law, so whilst DM is technically right, there are more serious traffic offences, and dare I say it non traffic related crimes out there for the police to get their teeth stuck into, but hey ho, thats too immaginative for the powers that be.

Didn't I read it somewhere you have to commit the offence for at least a quarter of a mile before they can charged you?

If you readily admit, that it.

What are you complaining about Donza?

You got speeding; lots of people do (myself included) and we take the punishment that we all know we are going to get if we get caught.

Yes there are lots of more serious crimes (with more serious penalties) but that doesn't give you licence to do what you want without consequence. The fact that your speed was varying shows you were being followed (as opposed to a speed gun) so the fact you didn't spot this shows a lack of attention which makes your speeding worse :p

Points count (for totting up offences) for three years, they can be removed from your licence after four years and insurance companies require you to declare them for five years. Make sure you tell your insurance company; many companies don't increase your premium for the first three points but some do. Many companies will ask you to produce your driving licence if you make a claim and if you have undeclared points then you have a problem!

Thats good advice, from a going forward POV.

We know he broke the law, but it doesn't make him a criminal compared to the yobs, junkies etc. Hence when you apply for a job and are asked re criminal convictions, they say "excluding motoring offenses". So yes a crime, but not a major one.

Now where is recylced to back me up :D

Yes he has broken the law.
Yes the punishment is points and a fine.
Does he deserve that? Absolutely not.
Does the punishment fit the crime? No way.
If there was no financial gain in speeding cases, will it be pursued so vigorously? No way
Does collecting money make people slow down? I do not know.
Are car drivers that break speeding laws, treated like other members of society that commit crime? NO way.

I mean where is the first warning?, then the second and third and fourth?
Where is the bound over to keep peace? where is the police caution? where is the (this is fraud) not our case sir

I guess he has committed crime than this guy.
