What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Test the glow plugs (well, 5 of them, one was too much hassle to get to) and am 98% sure that I have a faulty relay, so I ordered that part. Cleaned the engine bay, swore at how crap the turbo intake seals are (the nipple always breaks off). Quickly rinsed the car and cleaned the interior a bit.

Spent most of the evening researching which ceramic wheel coating I'd want to use after I get my wheels refurbed! What a saddo.

Most of this was procrastination to avoid doing work, of course...

Took my Les Paul, I also have a couple of Strats though I tend to use the Les Paul at church most of the time.

Ive got a couple of Les Pauls myself. Started using Duesenberg’s last year for live stuff and havent looked back. So light

I didn't do anything to the actual car today but I did pay a French speeding fine for doing 89 km/h in an 80 zone.

We had a stay of execution for a few years but they can now pursue you in the UK.

A lot of miles!
A 500 mile round trip to Norfolk over a long weekend, and the car is now with my wife on the South coast. It will be a 1000mile week and will turn over 30k miles before Thursday.
Having said that, most of my weeks were 1000mile weeks a few years ago, but that was mostly in company cars.
My record mileage in a 9 to 5 day is 1170. That was with the help of the late David Leslie driving the XJ220 around the Nardo test circuit in Italy doing SAD*

*Simulated Autobahn Durability.

You should really start a Mactech stories thread. I bet you have some awesome tales of the car world.

Just enjoyed my commute again listening to the radio[emoji1303]

Had new rear sub-frame bushes fitted and booked it back in for a new thermostat and new batteries on October 14th.

Yesterday I changed the Glow Plug Relay

Today I decided to take my dash/comand/vents apart to get to the source of all the squeaking and rattling - I can't stand it any longer.

Applied foam and felt tape. Will re-assemble tomorrow, probably applying more tape to the actual car, too. Needs some on the driver's seatbelt!

Yesterday I turned my attention to the lid on the centre console - the plastic underside panel was loose and unfortunately it wasn't just a case of pushing it back in place as there are two prongs (that fit into corresponding grip sockets) which had broken off - nowhere to be found. I made replacement prongs which were superglued in place and then the whole panel was superglued back to the underside of the lid, clamped up and left overnight. All good this morning and I can now open the lid without this panel popping loose.....its the little things that annoy me.
I went on to Autosol my bonnet star to bring it back to a good shine, followed by applying a nano coating to help protect it going forward. Then I gave all the leatherwork a going over with Dr. Leather wipes and applied dabs of leather dye to some minor scuffs and what appeared to be a few tiny spots of white paint. That just leaves repairs to be done to the HRW heating elements where they have been damaged.

Not actually to the Merc as I still haven't got one for another 3 or 4 weeks yet, but I have been preparing it's accommodation: -

Floor After September 2019.jpg

I've now got the second coat on the front half, I may do the rear section tomorrow, just depends on how I feel and how it all looks when fully dried.

This floor was absolutely trashed due to me having all my 190E rear subframe and other bits all over it last year, so it was long overdue for a tidy up. I thought about other methods, rubber or ceramic tiles, resin coated etc but it's a poor surface and awkward with having the lift bolted down. Another good reason was less that £40 for enough floor paint to get a good 2 coats down, with enough left over for brushes. :)

Ooh shiny!

Treated the old girl to new discs and pads then spent the rest of the day cruising around the New Forest. It's so tempting to have a heavy right foot with a '55 CLS that you forget how much of a pleasure it is to spend time in at sedate speeds. Also had a nice compliment from a chap who really liked the car. Always makes me smile when others appreciate it for what it is. :)

Altered the vents in the rear from stock to later Aventgarde 125 edition style which aesthetically look much nicer.

The magic 3 .
