What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Had new engine and gearbox mounts fitted by local dealer

Massive difference, vibration on tickover gone and car is so much smoother and quieter, 173000 miles now
Makes a big difference šŸ‘šŸ»

Took my W212 for its ā€œlastā€ service to Alex Crow (who has retired btw).
Did oil change yesterday and had ATF and coolant changed today. Discovered an oil leak from oil cooler/seals. The seals were replaced @100k with purple seals. Sod’s Law - looking to sell and now need to shell out to repair this!

Up and out early for the second MOT of the week. I forgot to set my alarm for an earlier time so I was ready double quick, especially as I missed the booked a lot for the other car as I was caught behind a lorry fire in the dual carriageway!

Passed with flying colours. February is a busy month for MOTs, I think I have one or two a week until early March now!

Changed the stat on the w169 AClass A170. It's been getting no higher than about 60 for a few months. Quite an easy job... just remove the airbox. Fidly to get to the two rear bolts...but doable. No need to drain the coolant... you only lose pint or two to the drip tray.

Before I started...

Airborne and ECU out...note amazing right to left steering colum routing! Just about see stat behind it.

Stat out and surface cleaned.

New stat in...1000014208.jpg

Proper temp achieved!

For educational purposes only... you never know when you might need the foreign for thermostat!

It's one of those wonderful words that you can even read in Cyrillic.

Up and out early with Baby D for a breakfast meet (or coffee morning). The car hadn’t been washed for a few months but was clean through lack of use and when we did use it last week, the roads were unusually clean and dry. Nonetheless I had it detailed yesterday ahead of the trip today.

Naturally that guaranteed rain over night, so the roads were wet through this morning. It rained lightly all the way there but light traffic and generally fast roads meant that we had the roof down all the way there. The rain held off just long enough whilst we were there too.

The wet weather meant that the spicy cars were thin on the ground however it was great go see some special metal (and carbon fibre) being used as it should. Star car for me was a Ferrari 512 TR, a rare car made even more rare by being (TDF?) blue, and rarer still will a full red leather interior šŸ˜

On the way back we swung by the home of a very clever young chap who makes bespoke carbon fibre parts, to have a very subtle visual tweak done which nobody else will ever know is there, but I will. We came home cross country so the car is now a fetching shade of satin brown 😁

Oooh,I do like a Ferrari that isn't red

After about 2 months Ive found the source of the worlds smallest oil leak!!. It was were the rubber pipes join the the transmission cooler behind the radiator. A quick tighten of the clips and hopefully that should be it.....Its lost next to nothing but I guess Id better check the transmission oil level next time im under there....as much of a faff as it is!!!
The oil loss was so small that I could not locate it without giving the engine a full degrease and jet wash to remove probably 15 years of road grime!!.....so at least its nice and clean now.

Today? Not much, just too and from work.

This day 8 years ago? We took one to see a potential new car in Preston, and ended up in Southport to see the sea and eat fish & chips to salvage something from the trip. We went to see a CL 65 which was not as described.

We travelled all over the country to view every example which came on the market for quite a while, and gave up because they were all really rough, and none were as described. Put me off them for good. Such a shame.

Booked the S204 into my local garage for next Tuesday (not an indy) to investigate a slight brake fluid leak. It's been losing about 0.5" of fluid over the course of 2 weeks and I suspect the N/S/F pipe which was an advisory last MOT. I think I've replaced all the others so unless its one of the flexi hoses, it has to the N/S/F.
Fortunately, it looks to be the easiest of them all to replace.

set the adaptions on my gearbox with my Foxwell NT630, been putting some miles on it and its made a difference, gear changes between 2nd and 3rd much smoother when cold, silky smooth when up the temp, still need to change the oil and filter though.

That’s impressive functionality.

I do love new tyre day. Fitted a full set of Pirelli PZero (MO), with new TPMS sensors and four wheel alignment.

When driving home from the above wheel alignment last week, a message appeared in the cluster saying that suspension was returning to standard ride height.

It promoted me to think that this would probably explain why the camber was out and couldn’t be adjusted, as it had been set for driving in the ā€œhighā€ offroad or wading position.

It automatically drops down to standard ride height when you reach a threshold speed (maybe 30 mph) to improve stability, and then again at high speed (maybe 70 mph) for improved fuel efficiency.

I booked it back in to be checked and readjusted at the standard ride height. That was done today.

Turns out the guy who put it on the lift raised the ride height as most cars with air suspension require it, but the Mercedes doesn’t. The guy who did the alignment didn’t realise it was lifted. Easily done.
