What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Got confirmation that the new one will be delivered 2 weeks from today. :)

The car will hopefully be leaving Germany soon, most of the paperwork is currently being completed, including all the bits which usually get forgotten about and make you realise why it's worth using a dealer for stuff like this.

Just a bit of waiting to do now but, after 10 weeks without a Mercedes, it'll hopefully be worth it. The bad bit is that when it arrives here it has to go straight off again to be detailed and ceramic coated, so another couple of days waiting. :(

Not actually to the Merc as I still haven't got one for another 3 or 4 weeks yet, but I have been preparing it's accommodation: -

I've now got the second coat on the front half, I may do the rear section tomorrow, just depends on how I feel and how it all looks when fully dried.

This floor was absolutely trashed due to me having all my 190E rear subframe and other bits all over it last year, so it was long overdue for a tidy up. I thought about other methods, rubber or ceramic tiles, resin coated etc but it's a poor surface and awkward with having the lift bolted down. Another good reason was less that £40 for enough floor paint to get a good 2 coats down, with enough left over for brushes. :)

You told me about this place where you tended your Cossie but that's one of the finest man caves I've seen. That S63 is going to get so much TLC. Is there enough space for a bed as well?

Saw the Aramco refineries in flames and filled it to the brim with V-Power. I'll need a full tank of good stuff for Pistonheads' trackday at Oulton on Saturday.

Couple of things recently.
Maintenance and modification.

In addition to the usual yearly fluid drops, I decided to have the serpentine belt and guide pulleys changed.
Admittedly, they were fine and the belt wasn’t displaying any obvious signs of wear but it was 12 years old, so thought it would be a good idea to change it.

I also decided to replace the stock boot spoiler for a carbon fibre one.
I have other CF pieces around the car so didn’t think a spoiler swap would look too out of place.
Was always a little hesitant about doing this because I know what a nightmare removing/ installing trim can sometimes be.
But decided to brave it.

Order one an aftermarket one that look like it would do the job.
It was made really well and finished nicely too.
But I had to be honest and concede that I wasn’t 100% happy with it.
The edges weren’t as crisp as the original and I knew it would look too “stuck on” for my liking.
You’ll see what I mean in the pics.

So it was either leave it as it was or think of something else.
Being stubborn, I didn’t want to leave it and concluded the only way to do it was to order an OEM one.
Knew it wouldn’t be cheap, but what was I going to do :wallbash:

Ahead of time, I decided to remove the original.
Having ordered an OEM replacement, I didn’t think fitment would be an issue.
As expected, removing the old 3M residue was a pig.
Removing spoiler was ok, but the glue was a nightmare.
Knew it would be.
Took about 3 hours in all, to remove it all.

New one arrived.
Looked great.
A lot more pronounced than the stock one, which you’ll see.

I closely inspected it, looking at the 3M tape that was pre-applied.
Offered it up to the car several times.
From what I could see, the 3M tape wasn’t sitting proud enough and would have potentially caused some contact issues.
So I added a little more 3M tape to the suspect points.
Glad I did, because I was right.

Quite happy with the results.
Ocd was on overdrive to get this thing on first time with no issues

Installed it 4 days ago and have been resisting driving it to let the 3M really take hold.

Seems solid now so I will probably take it out later this week.

Living in the countryside has it downsides eh!

Took it for MOT and passed with flying colours and with no advisories. 1st MOT in my hands so very happy

Missing mine as away abroad on holiday, so looked at some photos of it which I have on my iPad. Sad or What?

Took it to be detailed as it's not been touched yet.

Detailing person has done an awful amount of whining about the size of the car but I've pacified him by explaining it only has 2 doors so it's theoretically easier... He spent nearly all day yesterday just polishing it ready for the ceramic coating which hopefully will be going on today but I can't have it back till tomorrow due to curing times apparently. He also told me that there were several swirl marks and holograms on the paint, hopefully now all gone.

Took it to MSL......

After almost 1 year of ownership car was due service and MOT. Got 2 free services when I bought the car. Took it to MB in Glasgow for a B5 service, MOT and a software update. All at no cost and with a successful outcome. I thought the tyres needed replacing, but was pleased to see they all had around 5mm + of tread depth.

Had both batteries and the thermostat replaced ahead of winter's arrival.

Got 2 new front tyres for missy and topped her up with oil.

Drove 30 miles to a cafe for breakfast and to meet a mate, drove back and now contemplating giving the car a deep clean before winter, or opening a beer and watching a film......
