What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Quickly detailed the interior of one. Too hot to do the glass but resting and cooling down before doing another. Dropped in some fresh floor mats to replace the factory mats which I can’t believe they fit when new. The replacements were ridiculously expensive but a rare treat and the only way of really lifting the interior. Look fantastic too. Very pleased with them.

Now will I get round go doing another??
Care to share where you got your mats from?

I had them made fully bespoke by Brabus. I would have been happy with their off-the-shelf option as I wanted carpet for a factory look - but they don’t make them for that model due to very low demand in RHD countries, so I had them made.

They were cool about it though and charged me somewhere between the price of an off the shelf set and a fullly bespoke set (recognising that I wasn’t going nuts with colours and materials like most). It was around 3 months wait.

Although I like subtle tweaks where they can’t be seen I like to keep a factory appearances I now have the only set of Brabus mats in the world for that model. They have never even made a fully bespoke set before.

Do they do R230 RHD floor mats do you know? NLA from Mercedes.

Good question, if they made them for stock then you may be lucky as demand is strongest when models are current, so even if they have them then they probably sell relatively few now.

Just got back from 2 weeks in the sunny Dordogne at Montignac . Going again in 6 weeks to down near Avignon , so I’m thinking ATF change , oil change , PAS change , Diff oil in the next month or so .

Decent mats can make a huge difference. Worth it.

Agreed we’ll presented mats can really lift an interior.

I like to look after them and replace them when they start looking tired. I am a little over the top though - I had three sets for our first W163 ML light silver, dark grey and black rubber! In fact I still have a set of dark ones which are brand new - I really ought to sell them.

AMG “velour” mats - which have come with new cars for decades have been brilliant - hard wearing, and look & feel great. Unfortunately those in the the car in question doesn’t have them. Instead they’re a woven harder wearing material which look and feel awful despite being leather edged.

On a car at that price point they’re not good enough. The AMG mats in my C-class 20 years ago were miles better. Anyway, sorted now 👌🏻

They sound fabulous.
Thanks👍

Another? I surprised myself! I’ve done another two! Dropped new Brabus mats in those too! 🙈

Quick break and then I plan to wash one on the outside. It’s cooling down a little now - hot to work but cooler for the paint.

Blimey I really did surprise myself today, after detailing the interior of three cars this afternoon.. I then washed two of them this evening - unheard of for me.

Neither car has been washed for months so I gave the wheels two washes with iron fallout remover, and used tyre cleaner before re-coatimg the tyres.

I topped-up the ceramic coatings with a spray-on rinse-off hydrophobic coating, and finished off with water from the DI vessel so I didn’t have to dry.

I need to do the glass inside and out tomorrow, and next time I wash them I really need to clean the door, boot and bonnet shuts but that can wait until it’s cooler.

I wonder whether I’ll feel up to doing a couple more tomorrow night. Both are big cars though- and one is black so hard work relative to today’s cars. Let’s see.

Managed more than 46 MPG for the first time ever today.

I actually managed 60.6 MPG over a distance of 114 miles. The return leg wasn’t anywhere near as good, achieving 57.2 MPG over the total 229 miles.

That was achieved whilst keeping up with the flow of rush hour traffic, so a faster car wouldn’t have enabled me to get there or back any quicker, so no compromise.

Impressive! Was that in the ML63, or the AMG GT, or... :)

😁 It was my Mercedes-AMG ForFour Black Series Brabus Edition 1 of 1 😁

The ML 63 - with either engine - would manage 19.x MPG on that trip, and GT C might manage 23 MPG. My wife thought I was nuts going so far in the ForFour but at the end of the journey I was as fresh as a daisy despite having been sat in it for more than 6 hours in total.

I really enjoyed it and it was comfortable too. I had one scary moment joining the motorway from the services - a short slip with a hard stop at the end, and fast lorries - meant that I was moments away from getting stuck on the slip, but other that the only other thing lacking was the audio quality, which could be improved easily.

The most efficient car I’ve ever had was a 1997 Rover 220 SDi which did 46 MPG no matter how hard - or soft - I drove it. Many years later I had a 2014 Audi A6 3.0 Bi TDi [313] Quattro Sport Line Black Edition (and it really was called that, blooming ridiculous!) and I managed 46 MPG once, but I had to work hard for it! Maybe it was the weight of all the badges 😁

I thought the refrigerant quantity was the same regardless.
I'd think it probably is for all the 212s - 590 gm. My CLS SB (212 based) has the three-zone aircon, and pretty much the same cabin volume as the S212, and my sticker says 590 gm.

My company cars from 2014 and 1991 together in '14.....
The Audi was 2.0 tdi Ultra, not the 3 litre bi-turbo, but a great car none the less😃IMG_0039.JPG
