What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Drove mine back from Gatwick this afternoon /evening.

After getting a smidge over 40mpg on a steady run up on Tuesday early doors, I managed nowhere near that on the way back today!:cool:

I also got to listen to the E63 in front of me do some hard pulls off a couple of dual carriageway roundabouts (and I kept up, not too shabby at all)

I then followed an SLK55 burbling away through the villages

And in taking this new (Waze'd) route back through Billingshurst down to Fontwell, I have found some new favourite roads to sweep along at (some) speed

A good day!

PS the mpg did have a 3 on the front (just);)

After looking for some AMG 21’s alloy wheels for over a year, I finally found a set of genuine wheels just like the ones I wanted for the S65AMG

Today I fitted the new wheels to the car :)

New tailpipe day. Whilst I was happy with the sound from the Ulter branded aftermarket exhaust, I was never 100% happy with the style of the single tailpipes since I bought the car 5 years ago. So I bought another of their tailpipe options for the system, twin outlets & had them welded on. They fill the bumper apertures much better imo.

It’s been a very car themed weekend, and one of the highlights was covering more than 500 miles in cars with four generations of legendary V8 AMG engines: M113K, M156, M157, and M178 …my favourite was always the last one I drove!

Another was a rain-soaked top-down cross-country drive to Caffeine & Machine near Stratford upon Avon with my Son to meet Bruce Wood from Cosworth to talk about developing engines for Valkyrie, T50, P1 and something else 👀

The last was taking my Dad to Donington Park to watch the BTCC and the Radical Cup. Heavy rain stopped play until after lunch. I took him 21 years ago to see Vauxhall win the triple as a guest of Vauxhall. This time we were guests of Radical.

Not a bad weekend in cars.

Swapped the E55 (E63) wheels onto the W212 E250 as only using the E250 and the tyres are perishing due to old age. :(

Today I swore at it .....

Because now has a clonk and jerk when stationary shifting P-D-N-R etc. Jerk and creak and wobble and shifting is crap while driving.

Took the bonnet grilles off the SL as I really don't like the black plastic look, so going to paint them body colour and hope they look better (to me, anyway!) Already in primer, top coat tomorrow, lacquer on Thursday. I'll also mop the bonnet whilst they're off.

Took advantage of the weather this morning and gave the car a quick wash this morning, probably not going to stay clean for long with this weather though.

:mad::wallbash:

Clipped wing mirror with passing car.

Smashed to glass and scuffed the mirror cap

Onto MB Newcastle to see the damage in the morning.

50/50 (their fault though) but I'll have to suck it up

The joys of motoring

Fitted a new coolant level sensor to the SLK, so far the warning light hasn’t come on.
Ah I wonder if that's what's up with my 212. Filled it up, did 400 miles and it came back on. Wasn't expecting it to.

Replaced other front wheel arch liner. This was £130 ffs. Last year I did the other and it was £45. Supply & Demand :(
