What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Took one for a drive with a few friends to the highest inn in England, The Tan Hill Inn. The whole journey outbound was “making progress” on the most scenic and best driving roads all the way there, many of miles of which were little more than single track lane. We took the fastest route back, happy to cruise on the M6.

All in all we covered 373 miles in 9h 55m, arriving home 14 hours after we set off. It was a seriously intense journey for drivers, and even more so for passengers. Mrs D was one of two passengers in the group - the other aborted half way. Top marks to Mrs D, I’m very lucky to have her, she’s very understanding!

Some lovely entertaining roads up that way. We’ve had a few good outings there.

I’ll be working the next 10 weekends. 🥴
Funny ole world. All that money spent on our car 11 days ago and it’s still sitting in the garage in the same spot Richard parked it when he brought it back after all the work.

He’s messaged me twice to ask if I’ve noticed an improvement and he’s agog that I’ve never driven it since. 🤪

Changed the plugs in the W169 A170.....a nice simple job.....NOT. You either need arms with the same thickness and bendyness as an octopus to do from the underneath ....or to remove the ECU, airbox, intake tube and screen wash bottle and give yourself JUST enough space to do it from the top. Having done it from the the bottom last time I did it from the top this time.... rather easier but still got my arms pretty scratched up. Stupid design!
They were quite worn for plugs less than 20,000 miles old...see pics below....replaced the Bosch ones with Denso Resistors. Started a lot more crispy and revs cleaner from a standing start.... there was a slight hesitation if trying to do a reasonably quick standing start...now gone. But alas it did not cure the issue of the aux belt tensioner chattering slightly at idle when in gear and being held on the brakes. It's had a new AC pump (it had a loud whine) and a new tensioner and belt.....but although the AC is silent I still have the chatter.... any ideas?

Well at least you're not going to wear out those new pads and discs in a hurry

I've finally brought my car home and given it a good wash after it sat in the garage for 2 months! Delighted to be driving it again, even though I prefer not to dwell on the considerable sum I've "invested" in keeping it away from the scrapyard.

It will be worth it, I’m sure. Proper Mercedes that 👍🏻

Just got back from a late night drive out to the Leicestershire countryside, parked up for an hour or so watching the Perseid meteor shower. Didn't see as many as I hoped but still saw plenty. Lovely night for it too.

Washed both the girls, Mel because she'd got all the sticky stuff off the trees whilst I was away, even tho I deliberately parked away from them! The old girl was covered in sawdust after the builder had been at the house. Both all clean and shiny and of course now its just started to rain
